The Tabernacle (Part One)

The Design Of The Tabernacle Comes From God

(Part One)

Our Text:

Exodus Chapters 25-27

The Theme of this lesson is simple and is given by God Himself, as God told Moses:

Exo 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; [that I may dwell among them].

Exo 25:9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

The study of the Tabernacle will open our eyes to Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. If we seek wisdom in a word picture of God's Word there is no better place to start than with the Tabernacle.

What is "wisdom"?

Wisdom is an action we can only take after we have been filled with knowledge.

If a man does not know Our Lord then they are not very wise:

Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Pro 9:11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

We can even live longer knowing the things of God!

We can gain much knowledge of Jesus and His Ministry by understanding the design and use of the Tabernacle.

The story of the Tabernacle represents Our Creator, Our Lord and Our Savior, Jesus Christ. Every piece of furniture, every feature and every service in the Tabernacle teaches us something about Jesus Christ and His Church and His Ministry here on this earth.

It was in the forty days Moses spent with God that God gave him the exact detail in every way of His Tabernacle.

To compare, God used just two chapters in Genesis to tell us of His creation but God will use 50 chapters in His Holy Word to teach us of His Tabernacle. When we skip over these scriptures or think they are boring then we have missed a very important part of God's teaching and the purpose of Jesus Christ.

The Tabernacle was real important to God!

BUT WE KNOW: God has one rule for His Word for us all:

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The key word in this passage is the word "ALL"!

We as believers cannot neglect any portion of God's Word without suffering loss.

This includes the Old Testament:

The Apostle Paul wrote:

Rom 15:4 [For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning], that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

That "aforetime" would be the Old Testament to us just as it has been since the beginning of the Church Age.

The Tabernacle has at least three meanings in "Typology":

1.) The Tabernacle is a 'Type" of God's Heavenly dwelling.

Paul wrote of the Tabernacle sacrifices:

Heb 9:23 It was therefore necessary that [the patterns] of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

In other words we have in the ministry of the Tabernacle a "pattern" or a "shadow" of the things of Heaven.

2.) The Tabernacle is a "Type" of Jesus Christ.

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Heb 10:8 Above when he said, [Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.]

3.) The Tabernacle is a 'Type" of Christ in His Church.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, [Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them], and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

What did God say in Exodus 25:8 "make me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.

We should be overwhelmed with joy knowing Our Saviour, Our God wants to live with us!

SO:

The "Key" to unlocking the understanding of the Tabernacle, is Jesus Christ.

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

That word "dwelt" comes from a Greek word that means "to tent or to tabernacle with us".

We know that the "Lamb" "Our Lord" was ordained before the foundation of the world:

The Bible says:

1Pe 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1Pe 1:20 [Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world], but was manifest in these last times for you,

If Christ existed before the Tabernacle and He did, it can be said that the Tabernacle was then designed to show us God's, Christ Child, God's Lamb whose name we call Jesus!

We read these words especially around Christmas:

Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luk 2:21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

So Christ was born, lived, and died, in exact accord with God's prophetic plan given to us from the Old Testament.

*****Our Text:

Exo 25:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Exo 25:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.

Exo 25:3 And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,

Exo 25:4 And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,

Exo 25:5 And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,

Exo 25:6 Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,

Exo 25:7 Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.

Exo 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

Exo 25:9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

Before God brought Israel out of Egypt, He provided through the Egyptians, more than enough material for building the Tabernacle.

God had told Abraham:

Gen 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Gen 15:14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

God had told Moses:

Exo 3:21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

Exo 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

What did Israel do?

Exo 12:35 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:

Exo 12:36 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

You see Jehovah God knows everything that will happen in the future and makes things available for His plan to work just as He designed. We know God told Abraham about this over four hundred years before it took place.

God owns this world we live in and everything in it. Even we His believing children are not our own owner:

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

We are only stewards of what God has placed in our care!

God used this material to teach, just as He uses everything that comes across our life to teach us. God will now teach Israel the art of "giving" and "giving willingly".

Remember these lessons are more for God's Church than they were for Israel in this time of Moses.

We know that this as taught by the Apostle Paul and was acted on by the Church:

2Co 8:1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

2Co 8:2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

The gift of "Giving" is a gift that the Holy Spirit places in the believer:

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: [he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity]; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

We see that these children of Israel, having that same joy at this time, willingly brought more than enough:

Exo 36:3 And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.

Exo 36:4 And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made;

Exo 36:5 And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make.

For a proper study of the Tabernacle there are some keys to remember:

The Materials and colors:

1.) Gold--------------Represents the "deity and glory" of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2.) Silver-------------Represents the "Atonement"

Exo 30:14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.

Exo 30:15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.

Exo 30:16 And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, [to make an atonement for your souls].

3.) Brass------------Represents "Judgment"

Deu 28:23 And thy heaven that is over thy head [shall be brass], and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.

Deu 28:24 The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

4.) Blue-------------Represents "The Heavenly One"

5.) Purple-----------Represents "The Royal One"

6.) Scarlet-----------Represents "The Suffering Servant" (Atoning Blood)

7.) Fine Linen-------Represents The "Righteousness" of the Saints.

Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

8.) Goats Hair------Represents:

A.) The "Fatal Sin" of man.

Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Rom 5:13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

B.) Plus the "Sin Offering". (Remember The Scape Goat and the Slain Goat)

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

9.) Ram's Skins dyed red-----Represents "Consecration" (obedient unto death)(to set apart for religious use)

10.) Badgers Skins------------Represents "The Unlimited protection in Jesus Christ"

11.) The Shittim Wood--------Represents "The Incorruptible Humanity of Jesus Christ"

Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

12.) The Oil-------------------Represents "The Holy Spirit" The Spirit of Christ Jesus.

1Pe 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

1Pe 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

13.) Sweet Spices-------------Represent "The Beautiful Fragrant Life Of The Believer"

Exo 30:34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight:

Exo 30:35 And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy:

Exo 30:36 And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with thee: it shall be unto you most holy.

Nothing will be sweeter than the day we meet Our Lord!

14.) The Veil----------------Represents "Through the Flesh of Jesus"

Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

Heb 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

Heb 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

**********There is also "Symbolism" attached to the "numbers" and "measurements" used in the construction of the Tabernacle:

One----------Unity (in marriage two joined as One)

Two----------Fellowship, (Union with Christ, Any Two are a Witness).

Three---------The Holy Trinity, The Triune Godhead

Four----------The Earth (The four winds, the four corners of)

Five-----------"Grace"

Six------------Man, Human weakness, Short of perfection (Rom 3:23)

Seven---------"Perfection"

Eight---------A New Beginning

Nine----------Spiritual Fruit (Galatians 5:23-25)

Ten-----------Responsibility on Earth; "Completeness"

Eleven--------Human Failure; Confusion; Judgment

Twelve-------The Number For Human Government (Twelve tribes. twelve Apostles)

Forty---------"Testing" Probation (Jonah 3:4; Luke 4:2, Moses)

Fifty----------The Year of the Jubilee

*****The Measurements:

1 and 1/2 cubits = Three (The Trinity)

2 and 1/2 cubits = Five (Grace)

*****Other things:

baking, beating, bruising, burning, crushing, piercing, roasting = The Suffering of Christ Our Lord

Exo 39:3 And [they did beat the gold] into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue, and in the purple, and in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, with cunning work.

Exo 12:9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, [but roast with fire]; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. (The "Roasted Lamb")

God will begin the construction of the Tabernacle with the making of the furniture and the first piece was the "Ark".

*****Our Text:

Exo 25:10 And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

Exo 25:11 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.

Exo 25:12 And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.

Exo 25:13 And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.

Exo 25:14 And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

Exo 25:15 The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it.

Exo 25:16 And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.

(Also Exodus 37:1-5)

The Ark was made of "Shittim Wood". This wood is sometimes referred to as "Iron Wood". It comes from the acacia family of trees. Even though the average height of this tree is only about 25 feet it is a valuable tree. This hard wood is resistant enough to heat and decay that it is said to be indestructible.

This is why this wood is a "type" of Christ Jesus:

Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me

Act 13:35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

The Ark was overlaid with "Gold" within and without. This is to remind us thar Christ Jesus retained His full "deity" in His union with His humanity. Throughout the Tabernacle, the wood is a "type of Christ and the gold is a "type" of His deity.

Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Jesus Christ was God in the flesh!

Jesus Christ needed to be totally God and totally Man in One Body for His work on this earth!

The "Ark" emphasizes the "Person" of Jesus and we will see that the "Mercy Seat" will emphasize His "Purpose".

The Atonement was equally on His "Godhood" and on His "Manhood".

Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

The "Crown of God" upon the "Ark" foreshadows the "Man" Christ Jesus as King and King of Kings.

Rev 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

What do the dimensions of the "Ark" reveal?

Length 2 and 1/2 cubits = five and five = "Grace"

Breadth and Height 1 and 1/2 cubits = three and three = "The Trinity"

Vertical girth 4 times 1 and 1/2 = 6 and 6 = "the Number of Man"

Horizontal girth 2 times 2 and 1/2 plus 2 times 1 and 1/2 = 5+3 = 8 which = "The New Beginning"

The Bible plainly teaches that the "Trinity" by "Grace" offers "Man" a "New Beginning"!

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

This "Ark" was to be carried in high respect and reverence:

1Ch 15:15 And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.

*****What was supposed to go into this "Ark"?

1.) The Tablets of Stone, (The Testimony) The Ten Commandments:

God's Law was kept only by Jesus Christ. All others have kept the broken Laws.

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Only in Christ Jesus can we be pardoned, cleansed, and safely covered by the Mercy Seat that was sprinkled with the innocent "Blood".

2.) The Golden Pot of Manna is a "type" of Jesus Christ as the "Bread of Life":

Joh 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

Joh 6:34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

3.) Aaron's Rod: This depicts a "type" of the "Resurrection of Jesus Christ":

Life that came from death, Christ "Our Mediator" rose from the dead. Our Life is in Him because it is He that is Life.

Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Joh 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Joh 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Joh 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: [because I live, ye shall live also].

Our safety is not in the "Ark" but our safety is in He that "Sits on the Ark"!

*****Our Text:

Exo 25:17 And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.

Exo 25:18 And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.

Exo 25:19 And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.

Exo 25:20 And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.

Exo 25:21 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.

Exo 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

As the "Ark" emphasized the "Person" of Christ, the "Mercy Seat" will emphasize the "Purpose of Christ". The "Mercy Seat" was a plate of pure gold, no wood. Only the "Deity" can offer saving mercy!

Only the blood of the "Sinless Lamb of God" could be used to save mankind.

Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

God met with Moses on the "Mercy Seat":(Verse 22)

Num 7:89 And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.

This "Mercy Seat" is then a "type" of Jesus Christ.

Psa 85:10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

Christ our "Mercy Seat" is a place of rest for our sin-sick soul.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: [and ye shall find rest unto your souls].

It is only in Jesus Christ where God rest His lawful case against us:

Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Only through "His Blood" sprinkled "Mercy Seat" can there be "Atonement for the Soul"

Exo 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and [when I see the blood, I will pass over you], and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

The "Mercy Seat" has the same dimensions as the Ark which is Our New Beginning.

The Length plus the Breadth (2 1/2 + 1 1/2) = 4. Four being the number of the earth shows that there will even be a "New Earth" when Jesus returns:

Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

We must not forget we cannot use "types" to establish Doctrine, but we can use "types" to illustrate Doctrine that is already established by the Scriptures!

Because the thickness of the "Mercy Seat is not stated we can say that the dimensions are boundless, infinite. This is the truth of God's "Grace" and His Mercy"!

However the "Mercy Seat" is exactly the same width and length of the Ark so there is only enough of God's "Mercy and Grace" to cover only those that "Believe".

There is coming a day when God will show His "Wrath" without "Mercy"!

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

The golden crown upon the Ark proclaimed Jesus as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords", His Deity and His Humanity inseparable. This "Mercy Seat" fits down right inside that golden crown and is secured in place by it.

This "Rightful Position" is forever secure, regardless of those that do not believe or any demonic force.

1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1Jn 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

There is no other:

Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Php 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Php 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

*****The Cherubim:

The Bible teaches us that the "Angels" are ministering spirits:

Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

We know also that "Angels" can take on the form of man when needed for man's benefit.

The "Cherubim" are the "Guardians of God's Holiness'!

Over the Mercy Seat there were two Cherubim beaten out of One piece of Gold:

In "type" the "One Piece" gives recognition of Christ as the "Creator":

Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (The One)

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (The One by Him and for Him)

Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and [they who are sanctified are all of one]: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

No doubt it took a special skill to do this from one piece of Gold:

Exo 31:2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:

Exo 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

Exo 31:4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

Exo 31:5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.

Exo 31:6 And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;

Exo 35:30 And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah;

Exo 35:31 And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;

Exo 35:32 And to devise curious works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,

Is there anything to hard for God?

"Beating" denotes suffering. If the angels can rejoice when a sinner repents then they probably suffer grief when a soul goes astray. Remember they base their joy on the "One" that sits on the throne. We know He can be grieved.

Luk 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven [their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven].

These "Cherubim" focus steadily on the "Shekinah Glory" which shows their interest in the Plan of God. They want God to be happy!

1Pe 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; [which things the angels desire to look into].

In this we can see that God is teaching the angels by the Church. How can we fail Him as we do?

Eph 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Eph 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

Oh What a Saviour!

*****The Shekinah Glory:

Even though the word "Shekinah" is not found in the Bible it is the name given to the manifestation of God's presence.

The Shekinah Glory is that flame of Glory, enclosed in a cloud for man's protection.

Lev 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, [which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat].

What we know from God's Word is that the Shekinah Glory of God left the Mercy Seat for good in the time of Ezekiel:

Eze 8:1 And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there upon me.

Eze 8:2 Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of amber.

Eze 8:3 And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.

Eze 8:4 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision that I saw in the plain.

Eze 8:5 Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry.

Eze 8:6 He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.

The Shekinah Glory of God began departing from apostate Israel:

1.) It left the Mercy Seat and stood over the threshold of the Temple:

Eze 10:4 Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD'S glory.

2.) It left the threshold and hovered over Jerusalem:

Eze 10:18 Then the glory of the LORD departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims.

Eze 10:19 And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD'S house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

Eze 11:23 And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.

3.) It went up from the midst of the Jerusalem and stood on the Mount of Olives;

Eze 11:23 And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.

4.) After this we do not read of the Shekinah Glory of the Lord except through the prophets until Jesus is born:

Luk 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

5.) For 33 years the "Glory" of the Lord shined inside of Jesus here on this earth:

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

6.) Just once on the "Mount of Transfiguration", Our Lord let it shine through;

Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

Mar 9:3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

Luk 9:29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.

7.) Forty days after Jesus was risen from the dead, He again went to the Mount of Olives, where he ascended again from the same Mount from which Ezekiel had seen the "Glory" of God 600 hundred years earlier.

Luk 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

Luk 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

8.) Ten days later the "Glory of the Lord" reappeared in the form of "cloven tongues like as of fire"

Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Today the "Glory of God indwells His Church, awaiting the Rapture, to ascend once more into Heaven.

It is a shame there are some that make God's Glory nothing more than some imaginary angelic language.

*****Our Text:

Exo 25:23 Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood: two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

Exo 25:24 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.

Exo 25:25 And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.

Exo 25:26 And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the four corners that are on the four feet thereof.

Exo 25:27 Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the staves to bear the table.

Exo 25:28 And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be borne with them.

Exo 25:29 And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them.

Exo 25:30 And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway.

I.) The Table for the "Shewbread":

The table made of wood, represents Jesus Christ in the flesh. Being overlaid with Gold tells us of His pure deity.

"He became fully Man to be made "The Living Bread" for all of us and he retained His deity that he might be "Our Eternal Life".

Col 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

The Table was 1 cubit wide = (unity)

The Table was 2 cubits long = (fellowship, union with Christ, and the 2 cubits would also = (The Trinity)

This table reminds is of the Lord's Table:

To the Church:

1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

True fellowship then depends on "unity" with Christ and all fellowship with Christ Jesus involves the "Holy Trinity".

As the priests of the Tabernacle had fellowship at this table, The Church can have fellowship with Our Own High Priests, Jesus Christ!

Heb 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

Heb 8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

There was a border all the way around this table that was also crowned with gold. This is the only place in the construction of the Tabernacle that a measurement call a "handbreadth" is used.

This border enclosed 12 loaves of the ''Shewbread". These 12 loaves represented the 12 tribes of Israel. This "handbreath" then reminds us of the protecting "Hand" of Our Lord. The crown of God is the symbol of His authority and His "power" to protect His Own:

Isa 49:15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

Isa 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

II.) The "Shewbread":

The "Recipe"

Lev 24:5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.

Lev 24:6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.

Lev 24:7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Lev 24:8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.

Lev 24:9 And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.

1.) The "fine flour".

This speaks of uniform perfection. The pure life of Christ. Man was not saved just by the Pure Life of Christ but by His "Atoning" death.

2.) "Baking" tells us of His suffering and His death.

3.) Christ "Crucified" then is the "True Bread" from Heaven.

Joh 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Joh 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

4.) "Cakes" :

A cake in the days of this Tabernacle was punctured.

The body of Jesus Christ was punctured in "five" places on the cross. Five = Grace.

5.) The "Shewbread" was "Hallowed Bread':

1Sa 21:6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

This bread was intended for the priests:

Mat 12:3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

Mat 12:4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

Now the true disciples of Jesus Christ are "The Holy Priesthood":

1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

All "born again" Christians have access to the "True Bread" from Heaven!

III.) The "Lampstand":

*****Our Text:

Exo 25:31 And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

Exo 25:32 And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:

Exo 25:33 Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.

Exo 25:34 And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers.

Exo 25:35 And there shall be a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick.

Exo 25:36 Their knops and their branches shall be of the same: all it shall be one beaten work of pure gold.

Exo 25:37 And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it.

Exo 25:38 And the tongs thereof, and the snuffdishes thereof, shall be of pure gold.

Exo 25:39 Of a talent of pure gold shall he make it, with all these vessels.

Exo 25:40 And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount.

The "Lampstand" is not a candlestick but it is a lamp that uses "Oil".

There are no dimensions given for the "Lampstand" and it was made of "Gold".

This speaks of the fact that Christ Jesus has no boundaries nor limitations.

The "talent of Gold" speaks of the enormous price Jesus paid for our redemption.

This "lampstand" was hammered out of "one" piece of Gold that at today's rate would be worth about a million dollars not considering the skill to produce such a treasure.

The "Three Sets"

Represent three stages of maturity:

a.) buds

b.) blossoms

c.) mature almonds

This speaks of perpetual fruitfulness, which can come only through Jesus Christ

John said:

Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

This seven-branched "Lampstand" was supported by "One Central Stem"

Seven speaks of "perfection"

There were six branches which is the "number of man"

Man always comes up short of perfection!

Jesus said in His Words:

Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Inside the Tabernacle there were no windows, no natural light, nor any other lamp. This was the only light.

Jesus Christ is the true light:

Joh 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Joh 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Since Christ Jesus ascended back to Heaven, it is the Church that is suppose to be the "Light" until the Rapture:

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Jesus said that that His Church(His Saints), though persecuted and many martyrd would never perish:

Luk 21:18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

Luk 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

To be continued in next lesson.

Let's Pray!

God Reveals His Judgments

God Reveals His Judgments

Text: Exodus Chapters 21-24

The "Law of Moses" was in three parts. As already mentioned previously there were not just Ten Commandments given to Israel. In fact it can be said that these Ten Commandments were given to every nation. After all these Ten Commandments were written with the finger of God.

There were 613 commandments given to the nation of Israel at this time of Moses.

God gave the nation of Israel her Constitution. Written down for them in Exodus, Leviticus, and in Deuteronomy. To obey these words of God would bring the Blessing of God.

1.) The Ten Commandments, (The moral law) The Governmental authority of God. God's claim to his people.

2.) The second (The civil laws) the social laws to the nation of Israel. How to be a Godly society.

3.) The third (The ceremonial laws) were given to Israel in respect to their religious life and activities. These are mostly found in the Book of Leviticus and many "types" of Christ can be seen.

A.) We have just finished the chapters of the "Moral" law called the Ten Commandments, Remember what the "Serpent" told Eve:

Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Gen 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, [knowing good and evil].

To know and obey the Ten Commandments is to know the difference between "Good and Evil". Most every person in the world knows these things from within themselves. These commandments are our measuring stick for ethical and moral decisions.

B.) We can find the Civil Laws in these Chapters we are about to look into. These are laws of social concerns but also to include laws of slavery, injury to others financially and physically, property rights, oppression to widows and orphans, money lending and many others.

C.) The ceremonial laws were for the Nation of Israel in their worship, in the Tabernacle and the future Temple.

We will see that this nation understood and committed themselves to this Book of the Covenant.

Exo 24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: [and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient].

They were not forced to give this answer. They agreed that these were good laws.

We know that Paul wrote of these things in the New Testament:

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Col 2:14 [Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross];

God gave us His Ten Commandments to insure that there would be order and justice in society even in the days we live in. When men obey His laws, there comes peace and prosperity.

The problems we face are not these laws!

The problems come from sinful man!

We have to make a conscious choice to be law abiding citizens. Israel had to make these same choices.

*****Our text:

Exodus 21

Exo 21:1 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

Exo 21:2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

Exo 21:3 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.

Exo 21:4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.

Exo 21:5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:

Exo 21:6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

The Holy Spirit has decided that to begin these judgments we must first understand what it is to be a servant.

The Bible says of the Messiah:

Psa 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Psa 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

Psa 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Who was this "Perfect Servant"?

Isa 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

Zec 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

Isa 52:13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Of course we know that these scriptures were fulfilled in Jesus!

The New Testament says:

Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, [and took upon him the form of a servant], and was made in the likeness of men:

Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

We know that this directly says it was God, (Jehovah God) who became this servant. Not many in our world believe this anymore and most never have.

If we cannot accept this truth of the Bible then we need to just throw all God's Word in the trash for none of the rest can be true!

The Gospel of Mark shows us how He served and He continues to do so for all that believe for He is now our intercessor with the Father.

Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Even at the age of twelve Jesus knew what He must do:

Luk 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

Luk 2:50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

It is said that there seven billion people on this earth today and the biggest majority do not understand the Word that Our Lord speaks to us.

Jesus insisted that He came to do the will of the Father in Heaven:

Joh 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Joh 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Joh 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

Jesus never felt like He had pleased His Father in Heaven:

Rom 15:1 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

Rom 15:2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

Rom 15:3 [For even Christ pleased not himself]; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.

You see this should be the mind of all servants of The Lord!

If Our Lord came as a "Servant" then what right have we to ignore the work He has given us.

God did not give us the Holy Spirit for our enjoyment as much as He gave Him to us for our employment!

The Words of Jesus:

Luk 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? [but I am among you as he that serveth].

It is the "Servant" that is greatest in the eyes of God!

Jesus chose to be a "Servant". Never at any point did Jesus deviate from serving at the Will of the Father in Heaven!

Verse 2)

The Hebrew "servant" was bought and was to serve for only six years.

We know that "six" is the number of man:

Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. [Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man]; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

What does man own if we know that the Owner of man is God? It is man's responsibility to realize we are owned by our Maker!

Therefore Jesus said:

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

Notice in the seventh year the Hebrew Servant was to be set free, his obligation fulfilled.

When the Lord Jesus came to this earth to obey the will of the Father, He fulfilled His obligation on the cross.

Verse 3,4.)

We know Our Lord had no wife when he entered into the servitude of His Father:

Isa 50:1 Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

Now according to the Law then His work complete, He could go back to Heaven free of any other work but He was to go out alone.

Now we know that Jesus could have no union with any wife so long as He was in the flesh:

Joh 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Joh 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Joh 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

It is only on "resurrected ground" that a union with Christ Jesus could occur. Only after Jesus came out of the grave did He call the disciples "brethren".

Verse 5,6.)

You see it was the Love of Our Lord will not go out to freedom without His wife.

This He did because of Love!

Jesus was not obligated by the Hebrew Laws to save this wife. He could have gone free. Remember Jesus was sin free because He obeyed all the Laws of His Father.

In our text we notice that the wife and the children are listed separately.

Heb 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and [the children which God hath given me].

Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

We notice that in God's Word, Israel is never called the Children of God. Then in this scripture Israel must be the "wife". The "Children of God" then must be the Church the Bride of Christ.

Isa 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

Isa 54:6 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.

Isa 54:7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.

Isa 54:8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

"he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever"

By boring the ear it marked the devoted servant. The doorpost marks the place where the family entered and a sign of personal limits and therefore does not pertain to strangers. Notice we saw earlier it was on the door post that the Blood was applied.

Jesus Christ did not die for the human race, He died for the Household of God.(all that will believe).

The Bible says:

Joh 11:51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

Joh 11:52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

and:

Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save [his people] from their sins.

Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: [the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep].

Those that go through the door.

Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him [to be made like unto his brethren], that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto [them that look for him] shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Those that are not looking for Him cannot be saved.

*****So in our scripture when the Master(The Father) bored the ear of the the servant(Our Lord), so long as he lived he would bare the marks of his servitude.

So too, the Lord Jesus Christ will wear forever the mark of the Cross!

Jesus said to doubting Thomas:

Joh 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

And we see later:

Rev 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, [stood a Lamb as it had been slain], having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Though Our Lord be ascended he still ministers to His own!

"when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end"

Joh 13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

Joh 13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

Joh 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

Joh 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Joh 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, [The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him].

Joh 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

The Bible says again:

Luk 12:37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

Our Lord still wants to be our servant!

Exodus 21:12-36

The Law Concerning Personal Injury.

It's not hard to see how God feels about:

1.) Murder

2.) Adultery

3.) Homosexuality

4.) Abortion

5.) Capitol Punishment

The world today says that God is harsh to require the death penalty but God wants us to take sin seriously.

The world today treat Sin like a "cupcake" when Sin is really a "Serpent"!

It is the governments of this world that say a woman has a right to allow the death of her baby and that murderers should go unpunished for killing the innocent.

It is this world that simplifies adultery as just "having an affair" yet families are destroyed by such actions.

It is this world that says homosexuality is just "some alternate lifestyle" and all involved are "gay" like this way of living is just too joyful to be missed.

Just in America, the money spent on death row inmates in appeal would go a long way in keeping the homeless off the streets. Our jails have become civic centers for those that ignore the Laws and will never be obedient to them.

There is only one way to treat the the confirmed murderer as he is a local terrorist. God says to put them to death so they can cause no further harm and it would be a sign to those that would follow. The world needs to treat the terrorist who are simply murderers and killers, the exact same way.

Exo 21:12 He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.

Exo 21:13 And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.

Exo 21:14 But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.

Notice how these persons:

1.) Lie in wait determined to have their own will.

2.) How they come arrogantly and willfully to commit these crimes.

Notice how God shows us that there is a difference in what happens by accident and what happens intentionally.

God insisted that there would be respect in the home by all family members but especially the children to the parents.

God insisted that if you caused harm to another that you be held responsible for your actions.

God insisted that there would be no kidnapping or abductions for slavery.

God insisted that the unborn child was considered to be alive while still in the womb.

Jesus explained what "an eye for an eye" really meant:

Mat 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Mat 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

Mat 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

Mat 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

God insisted that the owner of animals be held responsible for the actions of those animals. We can readily see that in some cases with animals only, where money could be used in place of "capitol punishment".

In our world you can go to jail for causing harm to an animal and this is true but when you cause harm to another human being the innocent victim is set aside while lawyers defend the rights of the guilty. Tell me this is not backwards.

If a dog bites someone they are put to death. When a terrorist, or murderer, or killer maims or kills some one they are treated as having a reason for their actions. This is still backwards in our world.

*****Our Text:

Exodus 22:1-23:12

The Law Concerning Property and Human Rights

An animal that was stolen was valued at five times if that animal died but two times if that animal lived. God knew that even animals can suffer from trauma.

If that burglar was at night killed in his actions then the property owner was not held accountable for his life but if that burglar was killed in the daytime then the property owner was held responsible unless his life was threatened and this was provable.

If someone or the things they owned caused damage to someone else property then the damage must be compensated for. This included damages to borrowed and things for hire(rented).

We can see that the family was directly involved in the marriages of their daughters. The man had to be approved and even concentual fornication was not allowed without approval and then compensation for the future well being of that daughter, as her reputation would be tarnished. To be a virgin bride still meant something in those days. If this child were engaged to another man whom the family had approved then both guilty parties were stoned.

1.) To Rape brought death to the rapist.

2.) To commit adultery while engaged brought death to both parties.

3.) To commit adultery while married this also brought the death penalty.

Deu 22:22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

Deu 22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

Deu 22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

Deu 22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:

Deu 22:26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

Deu 22:27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

Deu 22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

Deu 22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

To be a "virgin" was highly prized but more so the marriage was truly a sacred thing.

God is real serious about the "marriage between one man and one woman"!

God is real serious about how to treat strangers. They were to be treated as a friend.

God is real serious about how to treat the widow and the orphan. They were to be cared for.

God is real serious about gossip, and bad mouthing anyone.

God is real serious about bribery. Our politicians should be aware of these things.

God is real serious about the abuse of the land we live on. Each property owner to not abuse his land.

God is real serious about resting one day out of seven and this included the animals that were in the work place.

God is real serious about taking advantage of the poor and the homeless.

Deu 24:10 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.

Deu 24:11 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.

Deu 24:12 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:

Deu 24:13 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.

God is real serious about taking advantage of any hired employee.

Deu 24:14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:

Deu 24:15 At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.

God is real serious of how any nation makes such laws for it's people and also how those laws are enforced.

*****Our text:

Exodus 23:13-19

The Law Concerning Worship

Once the families of that nation understands their own responsibilities then God is serious about His Worship. We cannot truly "Worship" the Almighty God if we have not been obedient to His laws of how to treat His people and His families.

God teaches that all believers are to fear Him!

1Pe 2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

1Pe 2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

1Pe 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

1.) To "Fear God" to the believer means to have the knowledge that God will never do anything wrong in our lives. We are to obey His Word that He has given to us.

2.) To "Fear God" to the unbeliever means to realize the truth of Hell and to know that unless you come to know this God as your Savior you will spend eternity in Hell with no way to escape.

3.) To "Fear God" to Israel was to honor this covenant they were receiving at this time of the Exodus.

*****Those three feast are:

a.) The "Feast of the Unleavened bread"

b.) The "Feast of the Firstfruits"

c.) The "Feast of the Ingathering"

God is serious about His Worship to all and especially to all that believe on Him!

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Exodus 23:20-33

The Angel of the Lord

Exo 23:20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

1.) This Angel had the power to "Lead" these people in the "Way" of God.

2.) This Angel had the power to "Keep" these people in the "Way" of God.

3.) This Angel had the power to "Speak" the Word of God!

Exo 23:22 says "But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak"

4.) This Angel had the power to "Cut off the enemies of Israel".

Exo 23:23 [For mine Angel shall go before thee], and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and [I will cut them off].

Every nation would be better off if they would just believe what this verse says! It is Jesus Christ that is the "Prince of Peace" and there will be no Peace until Jesus comes again.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, [The Prince of Peace].

Wake Up America!

Wake Up World!

1Co 15:25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

THIS ANGEL HAD THE NAME AS GOD!

Exo 23:21 Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: [for my name is in him].

To the Believer, the Christian:

1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

1Pe 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, [pass the time of your sojourning here in fear]:

1Pe 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1Pe 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

1Pe 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

DO WE ACTUALLY HEAR WHAT GOD IS SAYING?

Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

GOD SAYS IF WE ARE HIS SHEEP WE WILL HEAR HIM!

We can only say then that those who we see in disobedience must not hear Him not because they cannot hear but because they blinded by the god of this world, Satan, the Devil.

2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

To follow this Angel would bring blessings from The Lord Thy God:

1.) Thy Bread:

God will take care of our daily needs

Psa 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Psa 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

Psa 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Psa 37:26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

2.) Thy Water:

God will take care of our Spiritual needs

1Co 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

3.) Thy Sickness:

God will bear our infirmities and our sickness.

Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Mat 8:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

God demanded that Israel be separate from all other nations!

God expects, in fact He demands we that believe to separate ourselves from the evils of this world!

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

God gave this new nation of Israel nine "I Wills" or nine things that He would do, "IF" they would obey His commandments.

Remember this was a "Conditional Covenant".

*****Our text:

Exodus 24

The Covenant is "Ratified".

Ratify means to be confirmed by both parties. In other words there was no misunderstanding at all!

Exo 24:3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and [all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do].

As we go through these scriptures we should readily see in plain language is that man cannot approach unto God on the grounds of his own works.

"worship ye afar off. And Moses alone shall come near the LORD"

The only way to approach this Holy God is through a "Mediator"!

For Israel that was Moses at this time.

For the Church:

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

This was told to Israel before the covenant was ratified and before there were any failures to obey. There will be no excuses at the White Throne of Judgment.

No one can come unto the Father without the Work of Jesus:

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Moses alone could only approach because he was the "mediator". (A "type" of Christ)

Christ had to suffer for our sins to be our "mediator".

1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, [that he might bring us to God], being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Notice the nation of Israel spoke in one voice at this time:

"and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient"

They had a godly fear of the Lord at this time. How soon things would change but they had committed themselves to this conditional covenant called now the Covenant of Moses or the Laws of Moses.

There are 14 verses in the New Testament that refer directly to these laws.

EVEN THIS COVENANT WAS SEALED WITH BLOOD!

Exo 24:8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.

Now that the blood had been applied we can see in "type" the privilege to those that are under the "Blood":

Exo 24:10 [And they saw the God of Israel]: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.

Exo 24:11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: [also they saw God], and did eat and drink.

We can see the future of this Nation when they return to God:

Rev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and [made them white in the blood of the Lamb].

1.) The "sapphire stone" speaks of Divine government, the Throne of God.

Eze 1:26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

2.) The "body of heaven in clearness" speaks of the The finished work of Our Lord Jesus.

Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,

Mat 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

Rev 21:11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

Rev 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.

The unapproachable glory of God tells a sinner to keep off, but the altar shows him how he can feast and worship in God’s presence.

By the Law we never hear draw near but "worship ye afar off" but to the Church we always hear:

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

What will we learn from a more complete study of God's Word?

Israel's history continued for more than 1500 years yet never again did their elders "see God"!

Never yet again have they eaten in His presence!

What Israel missed as a nation, the Church is blessed with for eternity!

Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

Heb 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

Heb 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

The Glory of the Lord was seen for seven more days:

Exo 24:16 And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

Exo 24:17 And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

Exo 24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

His Glory was like a "devouring fire":

Unapproachable to Israel but to the Church, the believer:

2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

And now we will see the Holy Spirit will focus on Moses as a "type of Christ".

"Moses went into the midst of the cloud"

And Our Lord:

Joh 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

We know and will learn next how Moses was shown the example and the instructions to build the Tabernacle.

Let's Pray!

God Declares His Commandments

GOD DECLARES HIS COMMANDMENTS

Our text:

Exodus chapters 19-20

When Jacob, his sons, and their families descended into Egypt, it was a large family. What we have seen in God's Word is that this family has grown into a nation. The Nation that is called Israel. The Word of God shows us how He used this nation to reveal Himself to all the world.

We must remember God will not allow any excuses for not knowing Him:

Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

Rom 1:20 [For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse]:

But Our Lord God has also given us His Word:

Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

The Apostle Peter said this Word is sure:

2Pe 1:19 [We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place], until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: [but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost].

The nation of Israel will be the key instrument of God's revelation to all humanity. If we want to know why Israel is hated so much in this world, [then we should know that this is the reason]. In "type" this shows us why the Church, The Bride of Christ is also so hated.

This great act of deliverance foreshadowed an even greater act of redemption that God would accomplish through a descendant of Jacob, that the Bible calls the Messiah.

We will see in this passage that God will enter into another covenant with His people. This covenant will not take the place of the covenant made to Abraham:

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

This covenant to Abraham had no conditions to be met by Abraham, except to believe. We call this "faith". This is the only work required of the believer, TO BELIEVE, HAVE FAITH in the Word of God.

We will now see a covenant of "Works". This covenant will have some conditions to be met on the part of the Nation of Israel.

When Israel accepts this covenant they are then required to obey!

Bible scholars call this the Mosaic Covenant. What will be learned from Moses in what is called the Pentateuch is that there were not only 10 moral laws but there were also 603 more laws of all sort making a total of 613 laws in the Word of God listed by Moses to Israel.

*****Our Text:

Exo. 19:1-15

Exo 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Exo 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Exo 19:7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

Exo 19:8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

Verse 19:1 tells us that Israel arrived at the Mount of God in the third month. I fully believe that this was the 50th day from the day they had hurriedly left Egypt. That may be another study later but it would coincide with Pentecost after the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus.

God had delivered Israel from Egypt on the ground of His covenant with Abraham:

Exo 2:24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

The last thing recorded before we find Israel at Sinai is that God had opened the "Rock":

Psa 105:41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

Psa 105:42 For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.

We will see now at Sinai, Jehovah God's relationship to Israel, the nation, was placed on a different basis.

Verse 19:5 Is not referring to His covenant with Abraham and He is not mentioned in this chapter. There were no conditions attached to the covenant with Abraham. That covenant was "Unconditional" on the part of Abraham and his descendants are concerned, at least those through Jacob. This covenant at Sinai would be a covenant between two parties both meeting certain conditions to make the covenant binding.

This will be a covenant of works!

What are the conditions of this covenant?

Exo 34:27 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

Exo 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Some forty years later Moses would remind Israel of this:

Deu 4:13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

Deu 4:14 And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

So we have the ten commandments and then the 603 statutes and ordinances.

What do we see in verse 8?

"And all the people answered together, and said, [All that the LORD hath spoken we will do]. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD"

We know that this true because it is repeated:

Exo 24:4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

Exo 24:5 And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD.

Exo 24:6 And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

Exo 24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: [and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient].

Exo 24:8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.

They knew exactly what commandments they were responding to.

It is the Mosaic covenant and not the Abramic covenant that Israel will later enter into the land of Canaan.

It is on the grounds of this Mosaic covenant that God will deal with His people while they were in the land of Canaan!

What we see once Joshua had led them into Canaan is how God responds to His covenant:

Jos 7:10 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?

Jos 7:11 Israel hath sinned, and [they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them]: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

Jos 7:15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: [because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD], and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

They had lost a battle:

Jos 7:5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

What had God said?

Exo 20:17 [Thou shalt not covet] thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Later we see:

Jdg 2:19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

Jdg 2:20 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, [Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers], and have not hearkened unto my voice;

God added:

Jdg 2:21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

When Solomon failed to keep this covenant:

1Ki 11:11 Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and [thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee], I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

Throughout Israel's occupation of Canaan God dealt with them under this Mosaic covenant:

Jer 11:2 [Hear ye the words of this covenant], and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

Jer 11:3 And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

Jer 11:4 [Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt], from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

God does not change as time passes by!

*****Verse 10-11:

It is said that this took place in the third month from what was the beginning of the Nation of Israel:

Exo 12:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

Exo 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

It is now the third month since the Lord Jehovah spake these words of Exo12:1-2.

If Israel left Egypt on the 15th day of the first month then this would be about the 45th day since they had departed.

God said be ready for the third day.

Moses would later remind Israel that this was the day that God came down to talk with them from Heaven:

Deu 5:22 These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

Deu 5:23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

Deu 5:24 And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

Deu 5:25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

Deu 5:26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

Deu 5:27 Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

Deu 5:28 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

Deu 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

*****Our Text:

Exodus 19:16-25

Exo 19:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

Exo 19:17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

Exo 19:18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

"Behold, The Lord God hath shown us His Glory"

Before this could happen the people were to "sanctify" themselves even to the point of washing their clothes.

Sanctify means: To separate, set apart or appoint to a holy, sacred or religious use.

They were to do the very best they knew how to do and God was coming down to tell them how they could be sanctified before all the world. We can say what we will but we can see that in 'Type" God will only draw nigh to people "who are clean".(from sin)

It is "Sin" which separates us from God. The nation of Israel did not know what God considered to be "Sin" so God came down in His "mercy" to teach them.

Even today the intent of these Laws of God are intended to teach us what God considers to be "Sin".

Paul Wrote:

Gal 3:24 Wherefore [the law was our schoolmaster] to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Gal 3:25 [But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster].

It's a shame that we live in a world that does not want to live by these simple laws. No one wants to see these 10 moral laws because they are convicted by them, especially our own politicians and our own lawmakers.

God is coming back in a cloud to get His Church. I am positive that on that day there will be much thunderings and much light lightning as God will again show His "Majesty". Yes, He is coming as a thief but I believe the world will know that He came.

A great and dreadful God will return one day soon.

Dan 9:4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, [O Lord, the great and dreadful God], keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

No one will dictate to God what His actions will be, though this world is trying:

Isa 40:13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

Isa 40:14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?

Isa 40:15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

Isa 40:17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.

It is God's people that are important to Him not anything else of this world.

We need to have some of this fear in our own selves:

We should have enough of the "Fear of the Lord" in us to live the way He commands us to live:

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

We must not forget that the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament, ARE ONE AND THE SAME GOD!

He is the One to be obeyed and to be worshipped!

*****Our text:

Exodus 20

Exo 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,

Exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Exo 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exo 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exo 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Exo 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Exo 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Exo 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Exo 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Exo 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

God gave us these rules to live by some 4000 years ago. While Jesus Christ was on this earth some almost 2000 years age He said these words:

Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

We live in a world where we know that this true! Lawlessness is not only in our own communities but world wide.

The men of this world that have obtained power from many ways, most of their ways not God's ways, and are bent on pleasing themselves with no regard for the people of this world or the world itself.

There is only one test of "Love". That is to have the desire and put forth the effort to please the one that is loved. We show God we love Him by being obedient to "His Will"!

Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Jesus Himself said:

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, [he it is that loveth me]: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and [I will love him, and will manifest myself to him].

There are many so called scholars of God's Word that say that the Laws of God are not binding on anyone else but Israel and the Bible itself said that this is not true. Paul wrote that these laws are our "schoolmaster" until we meet Jesus.

Jesus said when we meet Him. "or invite Him into our heart", we will know that those same schoolmaster laws are fulfilled in "love". In other words if we have the "Love of Jesus" in us we will not have to remember those laws because we will love each other enough to not need them.

We must realize Our Lord said these laws were special to Him:

Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Psa 1:2 [But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night].

Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Psa 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Psa 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Psa 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

And in the New Testament:

Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

Rom 7:22 [For I delight in the law of God after the inward man]:

Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

It was with Divine love that God provided these commandments. To obey them would show it is by God's Authority that we live.

Israel as a new nation had to realize they could survive only under the government of God.

God had created this nation of Israel and He had also purchased them with the "blood". Israel belongs to God!

God begins with the first four commandments. These will dictate man's relationship with God. Then the last six will dictate man's relationship with other men.

When God redeems us from sin it does not release us from God's claim on us as His creatures but He creates a new relationship with added responsibilities. God wants a righteous people and He has given us the guidelines.

God gave Israel three classes of laws.

1.) The Moral Laws

2.) The Ceremonial Laws

3.) The Civil Laws

These were the guidelines of the government of Israel:

Jdg 8:23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: [the LORD shall rule over you].

Just so we are clear these are still the Laws that Israel is bound to, until they meet Jesus Christ.

These moral commandments are binding on all people no matter where they live, especially on Christians.

Why?

1.) They proclaim the authority of God Himself.

2.) They were written by the finger of God and have never yet been repealed.

3.) We still need them in the days we now live in.

Paul said:

Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? [God forbid]. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: [for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet].

4.) Our own Lord Jesus obeyed the laws and He is our example.

Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, [made under the law],

Gal 4:5 [To redeem them that were under the law], that we might receive the adoption of sons.

God said we should delight in His law:

Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, [thy law is within my heart].

Jesus maintained the the authority of God's law:

Mat 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

5.) Jesus said He did not come to destroy the law:

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, [Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled].

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

6.) Paul said:

Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? [God forbid]: yea, [we establish the law].

1Co 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

1Co 9:20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

1Co 9:21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

1Co 9:23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

7.) God will chastise those that do not obey His law:

Psa 89:27 [Also I will make him my firstborn], higher than the kings of the earth.

Psa 89:28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and [my covenant shall stand fast with him].

Psa 89:29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

But:

Psa 89:30 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;

Psa 89:31 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;

Psa 89:32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

Psa 89:33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

This not to say that we should not rightly divide the Bible:

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, [rightly dividing the word of truth].

Through God's mercy He gives us His Grace because He knew that through obeying these laws we could not be saved but He indeed says we are to obey these laws. They are still our guide while we are still in this sinful flesh.

Remember what Paul said:

Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Rom 7:19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

Rom 7:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Rom 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

Rom 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

It is the battle with our own flesh that these laws teach us right from wrong in the eyes of a Holy God!

When the Bible mentions the phase "The Law" we then need to rightly divide what is said. In the New Testament there are three expressions that need to be distinguished:

1.) The Law of God:

Rom 7:22 For I delight in [the law of God] after the inward man:

Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind [I myself serve the law of God]; but with the flesh the law of sin.

2.) The Law of Moses:

Joh 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, [How knoweth this man letters, having never learned]?

Joh 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

Joh 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Joh 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Joh 7:19 [Did not Moses give you the law], and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Act 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, [from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses].

Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, [and to command them to keep the law of Moses].

3.) The Law of Christ:

Gal 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

a.) The Law of God comes from the mind of our creator and is binding on all that live on this earth. This is the entire will of God but is referred to as the "Ten Commandments".

These laws were expressed on man's "moral" behavior since the fall of Adam. Most every man from every location knows the "Moral" law without having read them. They are written in man's heart.

This is the reason that the Ten Commandments were the first of the written laws God gave to Israel.

This is why Jesus said these words:

Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: [I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil].

This why the Holy Spirit teaches us of the law in the New Testament: In the Book of Romans the word "law" is seen 75 times.

This is why sinners and saints are judged by these laws:

Rom 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Jas 2:12 So speak ye, and so do, [as they that shall be judged] by the law of liberty.

These laws will not be repealed until the New Heaven and the New Earth.

b.) The Law of Moses: Is the entire written law given to Israel in the wilderness. The Moral laws, The Ceremonial laws, The Judgment and the Ordinances. (613 laws at the time of Moses) [The Pharisees later added many more to these.]

These laws have not been repealed even in our day.

c.) The Law of Christ are the laws in the hands of our Mediator, Jesus Christ!

Gal 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

Gal 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

This is the Law that is in the heart of Jesus: The "law of God" is now the "Law of Christ" as it pertains to all believers!

As creatures we serve the "Law of God" and as the redeemed we serve the "Law of Christ".

Eph 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

Eph 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; [but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

Eph 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men]:

Eph 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, [not on things on the earth].

Col 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Paul explains this in his way:

1Co 9:21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

The "flesh" must still obey the laws of the creator, the moral laws.

The "saved soul" belongs to the redeemer, Jesus Christ and obedience to Him.

1.) What we will see is that God came down to this earth and verbally, with His voice gave the Ten Commandments:

2.) The Ten Commandments were the only laws written with the finger of God.

3.) The Ten Commandments were the only laws stored in the Ark of the Covenant.

God did not make His abode in the Tabernacle until The Ten Commandments were properly stored in the Ark and the Tabernacle was completed. This is when Our Lord came down to sit on the Mercy Seat.

*****The Moral Laws:

I.) No other gods:

God is saying that He will not tolerate any other object of worship. Flesh, Material, or make believe, fantasy.

This would include Idols of metal, wood, or stone, or any other material but also, Money, Pleasure, Fashion, Fame, Food, and any other thing we put in a place before our worship of the "Living God".

Isa 45:20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

Isa 45:21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

Isa 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

II.) Graven Images:

We can see that man is forbidden to attempt any visible representation of God. The first commandment forbids objects of worship. Now we see more of how to worship. We must not have carnal conceptions of God. Notice God adds that those that break this commandment shall bring down the judgment of God on their own children.

This means as parents we are to teach the truth about the Being and the Character of God!

Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

III.) Take God's name in vain:

God's Holy name must be sacred to us!

When we pray: "Hallowed be thy name"

Anytime we speak, in any of our religious devotions, nothing must said to lower the High Holiness of God's Name!

There is only one time the word "reverend" is used in the Bible:

Psa 111:9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: [holy and reverend is his name].

It should be ashame for men to call themselves "Reverend" when not one person can meet the qualifications as Our Lord!

IV.) Remember the Sabbath:

The seventh day is a "sabbath" unto the Lord!

1.) This says, man should work six days a week:

1Th 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

1Th 4:12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

2.) We see that this term "Sabbath" is not said to be the seventh day of the week as in our own man made calendar!

Six days of work call for one day of rest!

So far as the Old Testament is concerned this could be any day of the week!

IT IS NOT CORRECT THEN TO SAY THAT THE SABBATH CAN BE OBSERVED ONLY ON A SATURDAY!

THE BIBLE DOES NOT MAKE SATURDAY ANY SPECIAL DAY! TO DO SO GOES AGAINST THE WORD OF JESUS HIMSELF!

Mat 5:19 [Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so], he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The Bible says:

Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

The Lord says of a "Sabbath":

Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Mar 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

*****A little history of the names of the days of the week:

We have 7 days in the week mainly because the ancients were aware of seven "heavenly bodies": Sun, Moon, and the five (of the 9) planets which they could see: Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.

The Romans were the first to name the days after mythological Gods which had planetary connections, such as Jupiter (chief God), Mars (God of War), and Venus (Goddess of Love).

Along the way, and much later, the Teutonic peoples (Germans/Angles/ Saxons/Nordics/etc) replaced some of them with a few from their own pantheon and so the days became a mix of planetary objects and Norse Gods.

For English, that would be 3 heavenly objects (Sun, Moon, Saturn) and 4 Teutonic gods. In other Romance (derived from Latin) languages and not Teutonic the original (Roman) planetary names are often retained.

Thus we have:

Sunday From Sun's Day.

Monday From Moon's Day. (Fr:"Lundi" Ital:"Lundei" Sp:"Lunes"; (all derived from luna/lunar)

Tuesday From Tewe's Day, a Norse/Germanic female deity. Was: Mar's Day (Fr: "Mardi" ; Sp: "Martes") (You knew that "Mardi Gras" is Fat Tuesday!)

Wednesday From Woden's Day, (aka: Odin's Day), the chief god in Teutonic mythology. Was: Mercury's Day. (Fr:"Mercredi" Ital:"Mercoledi")

Thursday From Thor's Day. (He's the one that sends bolts into your surge protector and computer.) Was: Jupiter's Day: "Jove" (Fr: "Jeudi" Sp: "Jeuves")

Friday From Frigg's Day, a rotund Germanic female deity. Was: Venus' Day. (Fr: "Vendredi" Ital: "Venerdi")

Saturday From Saturn's Day.

It was not so many years ago that the Jewish people chose themselves to make Saturday their "Sabbath" It was not God's Word that dictated this.

The Church is told to worship everyday and are not given any specific day. It was in the days of the beginning of the New Church that the "Lord's Day" was chosen. It is accepted that the Lord rose from that tomb on a Sunday.

1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

God does say to not to forsake assembling in His name and more often as we get nearer to the end:

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and [so much the more, as ye see the day approaching].

In fact the Word of God says to assemble more often and not less often!

But we should also consider some rest time, and some time with our own families.

V.) Honor our fathers and mothers:

The word "honor" means much more than to just obey:

A child must learn that the parent is in authority and should be held in high esteem.

Luk 2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

Luk 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

Luk 2:50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

Luk 2:51 And [he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them]: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Luk 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Even Jesus obeyed His earthly parents just as he kept all the commandments.

We know that this is to be taught in the Church:

Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Eph 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

Eph 6:3 [That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth].

And God is serious about obeying this commandment as the length of one's life itself is dependant on it.

VI.) Thou shalt not kill:

Thou shalt not murder! God has attached the death penalty to this commandment and gives us His reason!

Gen 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: [for in the image of God made he man].

Jesus explains this for us that believe His Word:

Mat 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

Mat 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Jesus says that murder is not limited just to the act but also to the state of mind and the passion that causes the act of murder. In our day we say "premeditated".

All human life is precious to God!

VII.) Not commit adultery:

God says that there must be respect for the marriage. The marriage relationship must be paramount over every other human obligation.

We should not be unfaithful in marriage!

Jesus gives us the deeper meaning:

Mat 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Adultery includes the lustful passions behind the act of adultery.

We must remember when Jesus taught on divorce it was the unfaithfulness of a partner that could dissolve a marriage.

Mat 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

Paul wrote to the church:

1Co 7:15 [But if the unbelieving depart], let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

Still it is unfaithfulness!

VIII.) Not to steal:

God insist that we are honest with all mankind.

2Co 8:21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

The trap of making it a habit to take things that do not belong to us is real.

IX.) Not to bear false witness:

To be a slanderer and/or a talebearer will bring the wrath of God. Even to falsely brag on someone would be included in this sin.

X.) Thou shalt no covet:

This commandment differs from the others because they forbade the act and [this commandment condemns the desire to act]!

Covet means "to desire". You can look at all the laws of any land you will not see that this commandment is not written into any of them. Only God can look into the heart and know whether we have broken this commandment. This desire reveals the evil that is in our sinful flesh.

Luk 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

There is only one exception to this law:

1Co 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

1Co 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

1Co 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

1Co 12:31 [But covet earnestly the best gifts]: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

What do we see of Israel after receiving these commandments of God?

They knew they needed a "mediator"! They want Moses to deal with God on their behalf!

This met a need from their side but not from God's side!

The next thing we see is an "Altar"!

The altar shows us God's "Grace"!

We should realize that the Ten Commandments were never given to man as a means of salvation.

God does not authorize any salvation by works!

The only work we have to do, IS TO BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD!

These "Laws" are not a way of life but they are the rules of our conduct!

God provided an "altar" for the times we have failed in obeying His Commandments. "We need to pray for His forgiveness".

*****This "Altar":

This altar was not to be made from man-made materials. No skill of man was needed to build this altar. The intent being that no man to take credit as a stone mason or in any other skill.

1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

By no works of our own righteousness can we be forgiven!

Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Tit 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

A sinful man cannot go before God with anything that his own labors has produced!

God will reject all efforts of the natural man to redeem himself!

Man cannot climb up to Heaven by any steps that he thinks he has built!

It is a fact that Our bridge to Heaven is The Lord Jesus Christ. It is Jesus Christ that took all the steps to come to us.

1.) He made Himself of no reputation.

2.) He took upon Himself the form of a servant.

3.) He was made in the likeness of man.

4.) He, being found in fashion as a man He humbled Himself.

5.) He became obedient unto the death of the cross.

There are no steps for man to climb! When man tries to climb his own steps he shames the work of God!

The Cross is the one true "Altar" of God!

Let's Pray!
