Let Brotherly Love be Real

 A Better Service

Book of Hebrews Chapter 13

We must understand that we were made to worship our Creator!

We must recognize the Higher Authority of our Creator and reverence Him!

He is the Highest of the high!

We live in a world today that rejects authority and everyone wants to do as they please without being held accountable.

Because of sin we had to be "Born Again" again so we could worship God and we have to know the truth of God to understand these things!

We should be able to see from all the previous chapters in this Book of Hebrews that the Lord Jesus Christ did not do away with the Law but He in fact fulfilled the Law.

Mat 5:17  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The Bible would be useless to us if the Lord Jesus had not come to fulfill all the Law and all the prophets!

We need the entire Word of God to understand the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ and the truth of our Creator!

Unlike most preachers and most men of God today, the Lord Jesus did not shy away from giving us the truth.

It is a fact, that the Lord Jesus Christ would not be allowed to preach in most Churches today because, His message was blunt and to the truth of God.

The first twelve chapters of the Book of Hebrews have described to us the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Remember the writer was writing to early Hebrew Christians as opposed to the Greek Christians.

The call of the Book of Hebrews is a call to action!

What is wrong with the Church today? It has become lazy and liberal!

The modern church has gotten so bad, it is rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ who is the foundation of the Church!

God the Holy Spirit has been precise in teaching us that it is the Lord Jesus Christ we are to listen to and not the foolish men of this world, even if those men are so-called men of God .

Since it is "by faith" that we can have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, then we must put action to this relationship we have with Him!

We can describe this "action" as "trust"!

Our lives must reflect the reality of our relationship with our Savior, and we do this when we "trust" what He says and be obedient to His Word!

We are to worship in Spirit and Truth, and it seems we have forgotten these things!

Joh 14:17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

See what the Lord Jesus is saying?

If you are saved, then you have the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) living within you and it should be noticeable in our worship of Him.

Those who do not have the Holy Spirit living in them, cannot know how to worship God!

It is a shame that those who are lost, worship sin better than most Christians worship our Savior!

They put more effort into sin than they do eternal life, and it is not supposed to be that way!

What is on the inside of our hearts will come to the outside in our lifestyle starting with the words we speak!

Luk 6:45  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Luk 6:46  And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

It is this Chapter 13 that teaches us how to deal with some of these things.

*****Heb 13:1  Let brotherly love continue.

In this chapter we will deal with serving the Lord.

A good meaning of servitude can be taken from the Book of Romans:

Rom 1:9  For God is my witness, "whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son", that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

Before we can be of service to the Lord, we must have a realistic view of the world:

Mat 7:3  And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

We are all sinners so how can we even think we could judge others? There is only one Judge, and He is the Lord and he will judge us by His Word

What are some of the places where the Lord has chosen for us to serve?

Rom 12:6  Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Rom 12:7  Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Rom 12:8  Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

If the Lord has something specific for you, He will send it to you by the Holy Spirit.

The one ingredient that will keep us all honest is "Brotherly Love"!

How do we describe "Brotherly Love"?

Brotherly love is that feeling of mutual regard among all the members of our faith.

Brotherly love is a little bit different from the way we love our families.

It is brother like love, it is brother love, the love we must have for our brothers and sisters in Christ. The love of the brethren.

1Pe 1:22  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Our brethren are all those who try to keep all the Word of God as best they can and are in one accord with us.

1Pe 3:8  Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

1Pe 3:9  Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

We are all one family because we all have the same Father! God the Father. We also have the same Savior our High Priest the Lord Jesus Christ!

Our soon coming King.

Mat 23:8  But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

Mat 23:9  And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

We do these things because we are all filled with the same Spirit, the Holy Spirit!

Gal 5:24  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Gal 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Gal 5:26  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

As we can see "Brotherly Love" is important to the Church, the brethren of the Lord Jesus Christ who are doing the "will" of our Heavenly Father!

Mat 12:50  For whosoever "shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven", the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

If we are obedient servants to the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, we are in the family of God!

We can tell our brothers and sisters by the manner in which they have conversations with us and with others.

*****Heb 13:5  Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

How can we be content as Christians?

1) Living our life without covetousness. Not loving money and our possessions more that the Church!

2) Being satisfied with what the Lord has provided.

3) Having a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and knowing He will never forsake us.

When we are focused on our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, none of these other things will seem important!

Even our thoughts should be focused upon the Lord "for what He has done for us and how best we can serve Him".

Luk 12:15  And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Now being content does not mean that we cannot spend some time to improve our situation.

As believers we are to work and labor more diligently than those who do not know the Lord and doing this will sometimes bring rewards here upon this earth.

We have the Lord to provide that additional strength we need to succeed, because the results are in the hands of the Lord.

If we fail for some reason, we can know that a failure is only temporary.

God always works things out for our good!

Rom 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

*****Heb 13:6  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

As Christians this world and the things of this world can never satisfy us, nor were they intended to satisfy us.

We are not to be a part of this world!

What we are looking for lies in Heaven with the Lord and those who have gone on before us!

The things of this world can only look good, taste good, and feel good, but this is all they can do!

Material things cannot satisfy the soul, remember the Holy Spirit that lives within us knows all about Heaven and He will yearn for His own return to the glory world and pass this yearning on to us as our work upon this earth nears completion.

Eph 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

Eph 1:4  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Eph 1:5  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Eph 1:6  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

We can enjoy the necessities of this life, but only after we have first sought the Kingdom of Heaven!

Mat_6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We should be mindful of the leaders of the Church!

*****Heb 13:7  Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

The Church leaders we are to be mindful of, are only those who proclaim the "Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ" and "all the Word of God".

If they cannot or do not proclaim the entire Word of God as the truth then, we need to ignore them and find a place where "all" the Word of God is proclaimed as the truth.

If their conviction is that God exist and is the Creator and Ruler of all things.

If their conviction that God is the Provider and the Bestower of eternal salvation.

If they lean on the character of God as written in the Word of God.

If their absolute "trust" and "confidence" is in God's power, God's wisdom, and God's goodness, then they can be remembered as leaders of the Church.

These are living leaders and dead leaders that are to be remembered.

A dead leader would have had the same message as the modern Church leader's message and should not have changed from those who have gone on to be with the Lord.

1Th 5:12  And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

1Th 5:13  And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

Why is this true? Because God does not ever change His character!

*****Heb 13:8  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Why can we trust the Word of God? Because God will never change His character!

How can we trust that our salvation is real? Because the Lord Jesus will never change His character.

No matter how much this world changes this change will never affect the truth of God!

National leaders come and go, but the Sovereign Master of Life is permanent, and none can change this fact!

The Lord Jesus Christ is forever!

The Lord Jesus Christ sacrificed everything for us!

The Lord Jesus Christ took upon Himself all the sin of this world, even the sin that is happening today and bore the guilt of that sin and the judgment of that sin for us.

It is by the work of the Lord Jesus Christ that we can become acceptable to God and there is no other way to do this!

No matter how terrible our sin, during the Church Age we will see nothing but "Mercy" from our Lord Jesus!

During this time of the Church Age we will see the "Grace" of God and not the "wrath" of God!

During this time of "Grace" the Lord Jesus will run to us to meet our needs.

Remember the parable of the "Prodigal Son".

Heb 4:14  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Heb 4:15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Heb 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

We can depend on the fact that our Lord Jesus Christ lives to provide all our needs!

*****Heb 13:9  Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

If you are Christian and know that the Lord Jesus is the same yesterday, and today, and forever, then you will not pay any attention to strange doctrines and false teachings!

There are many false doctrines that have filtered through the Church since its beginning!

Many of these are the reason behind the many denominations.

These things have carried so many away from the "Grace" of God and led them to a works doctrine, where it is said your good must outweigh your bad.

There is also the doctrine of moderation which does not exist in reality, there is no such law as moderation.

You cannot sin in moderation when the Lord says to do our absolute best to not sin at all!

Rituals cannot replace the Grace of God!

Ceremonies cannot replace the Grace of God!

Trying to abide by those old laws concerning foods cannot replace the Grace of God!

Our foods are bought with money and money cannot replace the "Grace" of God but is for certain the root of all evil!

God will not transform anyone by some physical or material thing!

Baptism cannot save us!

Church membership cannot save us!

Just because the parents were saved does not make the children saved!

The only thing that can make us "pure" in the eyes of God is a personal relationship with His Son the Lord Jesus Christ!

We must get hold of the fact that the Bible is the full and final authority of this world!

We can only be sanctified by accepting the work that the Lord Jesus has completed for our salvation!

*****Heb 13:12  Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

We get the doctrines of God only from the Word of God!

2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

2Ti 3:14  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

2Ti 3:15  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 3:17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

What is true doctrine? The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ in payment for our sin.

Tit 2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Tit 2:15  These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Tit 2:11  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

Tit 2:12  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Tit 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Tit 2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

The Doctrine of Substitution is mentioned here.

Only the Lord Jesus could be our substitute!

He was Born of a Virgin.

He lived a sinless and perfect life.

He secured a perfect righteousness.

He became the Perfect and Ideal man.

He became the perfect sacrifice for our sin!

There is no other sacrifice that could be made for our sin, beside the Lord Jesus Christ!

*****Heb 13:13  Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

Heb 13:14  For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

Heb 13:15  By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

It is our duty as Christians to guard against strange teachings.

Our best protection is to read and study the Bible for ourselves, and through the preaching and teaching of those who depend upon the Word of God for the truth, because it is the truth if it a translation of the "Received Text"!

We live in a world that is getting further and further from the Lord Jesus Christ.

There is a world of difference between the Gospel of Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and being slaves to sin.

It is a fact that you cannot truly call Christ your Lord unless you have the Holy Spirit abiding within you.

Rom_8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

We must continue to be witnesses for the Lord, even if it causes heart aches to those who reject Him.

We must continue to witness in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, even if it offends some people including our own families!

We must go forth bearing the reproach of our Savior!

We must remember it is our own sin that caused the Lord to have to die for us!

We do not have it in our power to make a sacrifice big enough or worthy enough for God to accept!

We can never be good enough to be accepted of the Lord!

We must know that it is only by the blood of Jesus that can make us acceptable to God!

The greatest problem of most humans "is to confess that what we do is wrong", in the eyes of God!

The world just does not acknowledge the sin mess that causes all the problems in this world.

If we cannot deny ourselves and take up the cross of Jesus, we cannot say we are the children of God!

Luk 9:23  And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Luk 9:24  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

Luk 9:25  For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

There is no place upon this earth that we can call our home, we are citizens of the New Heaven!

It amazes me that a large group of our population are trying to reach the moon and even Mars and leave this earth when it is sin that is destroying this earth and they will take sin with them no matter where they go.

No one can run away from the truth of God!

There is another group who think they can save this earth, but they cannot.

There is a place called Heaven and it does not take magic to get there and it is true that it is an eternal place.

It takes a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ!

We cannot approach God except by the Lord Jesus Christ!

What sacrifices please God?

1) We must confess His name.

2) We must live a Holy Life in the name of Jesus Christ.

3) We must give to those who are in need.

It is the hypocrite who praises God with his or her lips, but does not live a Holy Life!

We must never forget that God looks into the heart, and He knows what we are.

God cannot be fooled!

1Pe 2:12  Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Amen

The Unconditional Love of God Toward Those that Love Him

 A Better Love

Book of Hebrews Chapter 12 Verses 1 through 11

How can we describe the love of another person?

We could say that love is showing affection to that person, accompanied with an ardent desire to promote this person's happiness!

1) By abstaining from all that could cause injury to that person.

2) By doing all that can promote that person's welfare, that person's comfort, that person's interest, whether that person appreciates that effort or is indifferent to that effort.

Love must be something personal, coming from one person and directed toward another person.

A relationship develops when both these persons feel the same toward each other.

As Christians we know that God is "Love" and He portrays to us absolute, never ending, enduring, love!

God proves His love for His creation by the things He says, and He does!

1Jn 4:9  In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1Jn 4:10  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1Jn 4:11  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

It is because God has this love that we also should learn to love as God loves!

Joh 17:22  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Joh 17:23  I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

Joh 17:24  Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

So when we begin reading this passage that talks of a race, then we must accept that our race in the will of God is a LOVE race, to promote the love of God to this unloving world.

*****Heb 12:1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

It is a race to know God and His love and to commune with and fellowship with God both now and forever.

If we love God as He loves us then, we will believe Him and all the Words He has given to us, and be obedient to Him and all the Word of God!

We will believe in all the promises of God, and we will believe the love He has shown us in His Son!

Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Joh 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

There is so much we can learn from the Word of God, but if we can just believe He has this love as described here, the rest will be easy!

There is great power in faith.

There is even great power when our faith is combined with our true love for Him.

It is the baggage of a wicked world that has lost its affection for regular people and serves only the elite and powerful, that drags down each of us, unless we can lay aside these things and strive to match the pace God has given to us in His Son Jesus.

God has provided something much better for those who love Him!

Heb 11:40  God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

You see we must continue to fight that good fight of faith just as those in the previous chapter!

1Ti 6:12  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

When we read of the New Testament saints, we should see them as witnesses for the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

We must clearly understand that anything that does not build us up, is then tearing us down!

Anything that does not improve our Christian life, is then detrimental to our Christian life and our faith!

When we attend a Church service, then it must be to hear the message God has for us that day and fellowship with our likeminded brothers and sisters, and not for entertainment.

If we miss that service, then we have missed God's message for that day and the importance of it!

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Author of our salvation and without Him there would be no salvation!

*****Heb 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

**Looking; we are to fix our eyes upon the Lord Jesus Christ as the object of our "faith"!

We are to fix our eyes upon the Lord Jesus Christ as "the only" means of our "salvation"!

**Author; the Lord Jesus Christ is the "Originator" and the "Preeminent Example" of a life in Christ, being obedient to our Heavenly Father.

**Finisher; the Lord Jesus Christ is our "Perfecter"! It is the work of the Lord Jesus Christ that will carry us through to "perfection".

The Lord Jesus Christ does not start something that He does not finish!

Php 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that "he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ":

**The joy; The Lord Jesus Christ got no pleasure in the pain He endured. He got no pleasure in the way the very humans He created treated Him.

Heb 5:7  Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and "was heard in that he feared";

Remember the Lord was 100% man and 100% God. He absolutely did fear the scourge, because it caused the death of so many before they reached the cross. The Lord Jesus had to die on that cross!

Joh_3:14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

He got joy in knowing that He had completed the work of salvation for every human who has ever existed.

His work for our salvation is finished:

Joh_17:4  I have glorified thee on the earth: "I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do".

The Lord Jesus Christ felt joy knowing that salvation was now in our hands for He had completed the payment for our salvation that we did not have the power to do.

Our part is to believe Him and what He has done. This is why "faith" is so critical!

God will not tolerate those who reject His Son because of the work He had to do.

There is still joy in Heaven every time some lost soul is saved.

Luk_15:10  Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner "that repenteth".

You will notice that it is not just salvation that brings joy to Heaven, it is that fact of repentance!

The joy of the Lord came to Him because He had accomplished His Father's will.

What is His Father's Will?

1Ti 2:3  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

1Ti 2:4  "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth".

**Right hand; His work completed, Our Lord Jesus returned to His place at the right hand of God, but not just as Sovereign God of all His creation, but also as the High Priest and Mediator and Intercessor for each and everyone who have now committed to having that "Saving Faith".

The right hand is the place power, authority, and honor.

Rom 8:32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Rom 8:33  Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

Rom 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Rom 8:35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Rom 8:36  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Rom 8:37  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

The Lord Jesus Christ is our example of the results of "faith" as we will also return to the Father if we can show this same "faith"!

*****Heb 12:3  For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Heb 12:4  Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

How can we survive this cruel world? By keeping our focus on the things that the Lord Jesus Christ had to accomplish so that we can have this great salvation that is for eternity!

If we compare our own suffering to the suffering of Christ Jesus, we will see that there is really no comparison to the suffering and shame of our Lord as He paid our sin debt.

This will keep us from getting weary, meaning exhausted, tired, worn out, or even just relaxing as we go about the work that the Lord Jesus has given us to do.

There is no neutral ground when we serve the Lord.

We either are or we are not !

Discouragement can ruin our testimony for Christ!

Mat 10:22  And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

We must resist the temptations of this world and focus on Christ who has already defeated this world!

Most all of us can say we have not resisted until death.

1Co 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1Co 10:14  Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

We must never count the chastisement of the Lord toward us as punishment, when it is only the Holy Spirit who is keeping us on that narrow path to victory.

We must never question the love of God for His children!

If we would just take the time to study all the things our Lord has done for us simply because of His Great Love, we would not hesitate to show Him our love.

*****Heb 12:5  And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

We should also be clear on this issue. God will discipline His believers!

God will not discipline non-believers, they are already condemned to eternal death!

It is Satan who cause havoc in the lives of unbelievers, yet they continue to worship him.

God chastens, corrects, and rebukes believers!

God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does God tempt any human being.

Jas 1:13  Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Jas 1:14  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Notice it is lust that conceives, that brings sin into our lives.

It is the lust between a man and a woman who refuse to take responsibility that makes a need for abortion.

It is the lust between two people male or female that cause the queer life style.

It is the lust for power that ruins politicians.

It is the lust for riches that has corrupted our world!

Jas 1:15  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

It is sin that alienates us from God!

God does not cause temptation, nor does He cause us to sin.

God does not cause devastation, accidents, destruction, sickness, death or sufferings, trials or troubles and problems.

These are all things of this world!

God will go through these things with us if He allows them!

God does not cause terrible things to happen, nor does He cause evil!

God's concern for us is not to  cause us problems!

**God allows some of these things to happen to us to teach, to train us, and instruct us, on how to deal with these type things, to make us stronger.

We are to stand on the truth of God!

God does not want any of these things to defeat us and they will not, if we stand firm upon the Word of God, for He will be with us at all times.

Php_4:13  I can do "all" things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

There is a reason for that word "ALL".

These things will only make us stronger if we allow God the Holy Ghost to do His work of sanctification!

When we come under attack we must immediately turn to God and ask for help!

All these things are only directed at us to allow God to work in our hearts to make us stronger.

We must never lay around in self-pity.

Many things are blamed on God that are just not true.

For instance, a small innocent baby is crippled in an automobile accident by a drunk driver. This is not being chastened or corrected by God!

This happens because we live in a corrupted world full of sin.

This is the same for drive-by shootings and other such things.

God simply does not cause such things, "love" simply does not act this way!

We will not see the wrath of God during this period of the "Grace"

All of God's instruction is to teach us to trust and depend more upon the Lord Jesus Christ!

**When we fail or cave into a trial or sin, God will let us reap what we have sown!

We will always bear the results of our sin, but it does not cause God to love us any less.

When we deal with the bad and evil things of this earth, God did not cause them!

We must not despise discipline!

When we are being taught by God, we need to cherish it and know that God is using these things to make us stronger so we will be able to help others who may go through the same thing.

We must get accustomed to the tug and pull of the Holy Spirit and even the little tugs can have critical meaning.

Jer 32:33  And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.

When we endure the chastening of the Lord it shows we trust our Savior and our love will grow even stronger.

*****Heb 12:7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Heb 12:8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

We must understand that when we are going through a period of chastening and suffering because of it, and we see someone else going through  something similar with relative ease we must not get confused.

If God has received us as His children, we should expect our Heavenly Father to keep us straight just as we try to do to our own children.

This shows the great love that God has for us!

He may even spank us to get our attention, but it is still done in love.

It is such a great honor to know you are a child of God and many times as we go through these things, thank spanking hand feels more like a comforting hand because this is the way God is to His children.

We must endure the discipline of God.

We are to stand fast in our trials and troubles.

We must become soft to the feel of the Holy Spirit!

We are to follow the Word of God and the Holy Spirit will direct us by the Word of God.

The Holy Spirit will never lead us away from Jesus Christ!

Our Heavenly Father is a Loving Father!

Now that one who is going through something similar with relative ease may not even be a child of God.

God does not discipline those who do not love Him!

They too are subject to the curse upon this world and exposed to the wickedness and corruptness of it.

God does not discipline those who do not love Him because they are already subject to His "wrath" to come!

This person is the child of Satan.

Joh 8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

These people will act just as Satan acts!

The Bible says these are "bastards" and not sons.

Bastard used here means the offspring of non-believers who have rejected the truth of God and not taught their children the Word of God!

Pro_22:6  Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Furthermore.

*****Heb 12:9  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Heb 12:10  For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

If we have grown up having a father who loves us, then we have surely been disciplined by him and maybe that mother or both and we know it was done out of love.

Much of the troubles we have today are caused because of broken families and this is the work of Satan!

What we see today is children raised without discipline and it shows up so much that it is changing this entire world.

In fact, many of them have grown up to become leaders who now have no respect for the law and choose to not discipline those who break the law.

Living in this world of today we see that love of life has truly little meaning.

Rom_1:31  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

2Ti_3:3  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

The discipline of God brings life and life eternal!

The discipline of this world brings death, maybe not physical death but eternal death and separation from a Holy God!

They will be delivered to this death the very moment they leave this world, whereas the child of God knows that death is just a steppingstone to eternal life in the glory world.

Pro 11:19  As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

As we were growing up, our parents only had a few days to try to get us to grow up in a righteous manner in ways they thought were good, and many times they used too much discipline for the wrong things and too little discipline when they should have been tougher.

God does not ever make this mistake and God has our lifetime after salvation to get us ready for Heaven and useful for the work He has for us in this world.

If we are not partakers of His holiness, how do we ever expect to come face to face with Him.

There are no places to hide in Heaven! We either are or we are not!

Any move we make toward sin is a good reason to see the discipline of God!

*****Heb 12:11  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

It could be said that pain teaches us our nothingness.

We do not have it in power to stop our pain especially that mental pain for a terrible situation that is going on in our lives.

Health permits us to swell in pride and self-esteem, but pain knocks us down a level and shows us our feebleness.

Pain shows us we are not in charge even of our own bodies!

The fact of the matter is that we need solid "Grace" when we are thrown into the furnace of affliction and if Jesus is not there with us, we will be burnt to a crisp!

It is "faith and love" that teaches us to bear all things good and bad because we trust in a perfect Savior!

There is peace that comes to those who are going to the trials and temptations of this world because we know we are not alone.

There is a lot that can be said of that person who can stand and face God and say, "be merciful to me God, I am but just a sinner that loves you".

There is "Mercy and Grace" at the Throne of Love!

Amen

True Love is a Love That Can Be Seen

Love in Word and Deed

Book of 1 John Chapter 4 verse 7-21

Our lesson says the most effective way to deal with evil is to know the truth and then live as close to the truth as we possibly can.

The only way to deal with in world in a positive way, is through the Lord Jesus Christ.

To love in word is, not to just declare our love, but to let our actions prove our love!
To love in deed is that our love is a fact that cannot be denied!

This is God's philosophy of the "Born Again" child of God!

*****1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1Jn 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

We already know the number one commandment in all the Bible so, what is the number two commandment in all the Bible?

"Let us love one another for love is of God"!

The greatest of all test of the Christian is, "Do we love like God loves"? Do we really love our brothers and sisters in Christ? Do we really love our neighbors? Do we love our fellow man, no matter who they are?

Loving one another is proof that we love the Lord Jesus Christ!

The nature of God "is love"!

What is atonement? Being "at one" in the Love we have for God and His creation!

All things were made because God made the things that He loved!

Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

We might say that perfection cannot be created because perfection comes from being a part of God!

We can only be perfect when we do the things that God does and therefore conformed to His image.

This is the way Adam and Eve were created in the likeness of God.

Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

They remained in the likeness of God until sin entered into their lives and the Lord Jesus Christ had to come to remove the darkness of sin, so we can be restored to the likeness of God and then striving for perfection and the image of God!

This is what being born of God is all about! Reaching for true perfection and that perfection rest upon the perfect love of God!

When people look upon the Christian, they look to see if we have the nature of God. If they do not see what they believe to be the qualities of God, they see hypocrites, and everyone hates the hypocrite!

When they do see what they believe to be the qualities of God, then they think of Jesus Christ and again they hate us because they see what they are not, someone striving to be like Jesus, and it reminds them of their sin.

If they cannot see the love of God, and the joy of salvation, and the peace that comes from knowing our home is in Heaven, they will never know Holy Ghost conviction!

1Pe 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

If we are not seen as someone working fervently to show the love of God, then how can we say we love God!

It is only because of the "Love of God" that we can know the "Mercy" of God from which comes the "Grace of God"!

*****1Jn 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1Jn 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
The word "manifested" means, "to be made clear", "to be made apparent", "to be made obvious", "to be made evident".

God has proven His love toward us by sending His Son to His death just so we may live.

To live is to live forever in the presence of God.
To die is to live forever in the pits of the Burning Lake of fire along with the devil.

The life we live now, is only the time we are given to make that choice to decide which way we will go.

We might say, "well if God has all this great love then why can I not live as I please and still live forever in the presence of God in Heaven"?

The answer to this question lies in the promises of God.

God made certain promises to those who choose His only begotten Son, and the statement that we might live through Him.

If God is not a God of His Word then, "there is no God at all"!

Those who go to the Burning Lake of Fire go there not because God has forgotten His love but only because they did not choose the only path to Heaven, which is by Jesus Christ.

If you do not understand this, think take it up with God and see if you can talk Him into going against His Word which He will not do, because God is the same today as He was, back in the day of Adam!

Our world is full of evil and because of Jesus the world hates God, they curse God, they ignore God, reject God, they rebel against God, they deny God, and they oppose God, with none of these things making God love them less, but they must choose the right path and that path is by Jesus Christ!

The entire world has been full of sin! It was sin, that Satan used to seduced Eve into sin and Adam into disobedience.

Jesus the Messiah was sent to be the propitiation for that sin and Jesus paid the price so we do not have to pay that price and if we choose Jesus then this payment is accounted as our payment and we will receive a full pardon for our own life of sin.

It's really pretty simple! You may not get a pardon from your Governor, you may not receive a pardon from your President, but by Jesus Christ you can receive a pardon from your Creator and your God!

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Rom 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

These things are a sign of God's love!

This is the same sign that all others should be able to see in us and in our lives!

Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Rom 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

We will not be able to see God with our eyes until we get to Heaven, but we can see God in our heart if we show that same love, He has for us to all others!

*****1Jn 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
1Jn 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

How do we begin to show the signs of perfection while on this earth? We show the love of God in our heart!

We read all these things about the love of God and we know they are true. Many of us have actually seen the love of God work in our lives.

We have seen how love can change our world, because we have seen what hatred does and hatred is in full view in our nation today and so many of those who talk about hatred are the same ones who instill hatred and cause hatred.

They operate fly by night, because they have no real answers, but the one thing they have in common, is that they oppose the truth of God!

No man has ever seen God! God is not known by sight! No human will ever come face to face with God!

God is Spirit and the only way to know God is by having the Holy Spirit come to live within your heart and regenerate a new soul!

Even the Holy Spirit teaches us said the same thing while Jesus was upon this earth:

Listen to John the Baptist:

Joh 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Joh 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
Joh 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

if you see God as some man then you will never feel near to Him, but God is Spirit and He can come right into your heart and live!

God came to this earth and was born of the Virgin Mary, as a babe, 100% God and yet 100% human, these things by the Holy Spirit, just so we can know our God and by the Scriptures God teaches us everything that we need to know to go home one day to the glory world!

God can only be known by love. God cannot be known by hatred because, hatred comes by humans and love comes by God!

Jesus the Messiah is the image of perfect love, yet those who would reject Him will slander His name because of hatred!

BUT, when we honor God's first begotten Son by believing on Him, then the ever-loving God will come and dwell in us to begin our "sanctification process" that will end one day in perfection, at bodily death or when the Lord returns in the clouds.

Even at this time we will never in our human flesh be able to stand before Christ Jesus because the flesh can never be made perfect!

If you love Jesus Christ, God will cause His "Divine Nature" to be a part of our lives while we live upon this earth.

This must be our testimony that we are "Born of God"!

The love of God cannot be perfected in us until the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) abides within us!

*****1Jn 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
1Jn 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Notice the Holy Spirit is a gift and He is a willing gift. This is something the Holy Spirit wants to do. God loves His little children!

You see when the Holy Spirit lives within our heart and our heart influences our mind to be like Christ, to draw closer to Christ, then our own spirit will resemble Christ Jesus.

Rom_8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Php_1:19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

Heb_9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

We know God by His love. There is no other way to know God because God is perfect love!

Our own testimony will show that God sent His love into this world by His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to remove all hatred!

As we are filled with the Holy Spirit, He will remove our own hatred if we listen to Him, and this will leave only the love of Christ within us!

We already know when Lucifer was tossed out of Heaven, and He now walks to and fro throughout this earth, all he does is instill hatred and from this hatred come death, and immorality, and corruption, and all evil things.

The Holy Spirit will instill in us the image of Christ Jesus, to put a wall of love up that hatred is drawn to and hatred will never overcome love!

If we cannot know the love of God within us, then we need to reevaluate our salvation!

Jesus Christ came to be our Savior from hatred and instill in us the love of God!

The world was desperate until the Lord came and now those of the world have a choice to choose love or remain in hatred in this world that still shows the signs of desperation.

Satan is desperate because he is in his own last days and he will do anything to cause harm to God's testimony of love that comes by Jesus Christ!

Mankind through hatred will destroy itself and our Savior is more important than He has ever been, but time is running out for this world.

The signs of this world dying is showing every day. Some call it climate change, some are desperate to try to find some other world that does not exist, to try to escape what they know is in the future, but the fact remains, God already has a home prepared for His own children and He welcomes all who want to come, if they come according to the Word of God which will not accommodate hatred in any form or fashion but only by the love of Jesus Christ.

Thoughts and words by great men, great philosophers, great scientist, the great promises of politicians, are meaningless because this world needed a Savior!

Evil is destructive, but God's love is the builder of perfect things!

Christianity is God's power of love upon this earth and hatred's worse enemy! This is why Christians are so hated!

What did Jesus say?

Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
Joh 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Joh 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
Joh 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
Joh 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

This world tries it's best to hinder the Holy Spirit, but the world cannot stand against God's Holy Spirit!

Just ask all those from the past who have already tried!

God's answer is always the same! God says, "come to Me by My Son, or don't come at all"!

*****1Jn 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

Those in the world have no problem with talking about gods. Everyone has their own personal gods.

BUT there is only One true God! There is only One God who is also our Creator who loved this world enough to save those who He created.

God made a promise:

Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Gen 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

God fulfilled this promise just as He has and will fulfill every promise He has ever made!

We just need to wrap our hearts and our minds around the truth.

Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

We live in a world where promises are made every day and promises do not mean much anymore as they are so easily broken.

BUT our heavenly Father will not ever break a promise and He will never go against His Words.

It was and is the Jesus of the Bible. The same Jesus that the Apostles witnessed His death, His burial, and His resurrection that is the God of the Bible.

The same God who left the throne room of Heaven and came to this earth and put upon Himself the same sack of flesh that we wear and born as a babe grew up to be a man, who was the chosen Lamb of God to take away the sin of our world.

These are the most true words that some will ever hear, but if they refuse to confess that this Jesus is in fact the Son of God, then they will never know the true God and they will never meet the Savior that this world had to have!

It just takes a little faith and then allow God to show you things that will increase that faith just because of His great and marvelous love!

*****1Jn 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

We live in a world where men say they love other men in a lustful fashion:

Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Where women do the same:

Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Where they worship each other as gods:

Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Why?

Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Now if God would see that these things were written down for us some 1800 years ago, and we witness them with our own eyes, and these who do such things have come out of the closet and broadcast their unrighteousness and immorality around the world, then how can we not believe what God has said.

Thinking they are wise they have become fools!

Why have these things become public?

Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

This is not love, this is the workings of lust!

God is love! All men living in sin will draw back from the love of God, and that sin will not allow the love of God to come upon them!

We live in a world that makes up their own meaning of love, and God does not fit into their picture of love!

God makes it very simple. If we do not have God's picture of love, then we do not know love for love is God!

If God had a middle name that name would be "Love"!

Loving one another in God's love, is the only way we can tell we are Christians opposed to the world's description of love, which has become a foolish love, which is not love at all, but is built upon hatred to those who disagree with them.

If we have the love of God and love one another as God loves us, then we can say we are Christians.

1) God is love: God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world.
2) All believers must love: We must live in the love for one another with the image of God's love.
3) Loving one another with the love of God is our means of knowing our salvation is pure and is real.

So how is this love mad perfect?

*****1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

It must be our goal to live as our Savior lived, and Jesus lived a perfect sin-free life. Even Jesus could not have done so if not for the love of God.

Love is a caring attitude for all people, especially those in our Christian family.

When we have this love, we do not have to fear the day of judgment!

When we have the love of God, because of the love of His Son, we have been delivered from God's judgment!

Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Judgment has been removed by faith, but we cannot see that in perfection until we understand the love of God and show that love ourselves.

I am sure that even at the "Judgment Seat of Christ" which is not about our salvation, we will not be so bold to stand before God as we will be judged for the things since our salvation for rewards or the loss of rewards, but the subject of our salvation will never come up.

We are justified! We are pardoned to never face that sin ever again!

Rom 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Rom 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

We have been restored to the family of God, because God is love and we have acknowledged that love!

When we have grown in Christ, it is because we have grown in the love of Christ.

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

When our faith works according to the love of God which becomes our message of love, it is then that we can know, that we know, that we know, we are God's own children just as His own Son!

There is no fear in judgment for those who have the love of God and show this love to all those we meet!

*****1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

There is only one thing that we must fear, and He is also the one true Judge!

Pro_19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

This fear is a reverent fear of the Lord our God, but we must never forget His Awesome power.

There is no fear in the love of God, so there is no fear in love!

When we love someone with the love of God, we have no reason to fear them!

Even when those who come against us do so out of foolishness, we have no need to fear them because the peace and assurance that comes from the love of God erases all fear.

Perfect love cast our all fear. We cannot love one and hate the other, because this fear has torment, it will wear on your heart and the Holy Spirit will wear on your soul.

To fear is to have torment because this fear expects punishment and forever wonders when it will come!

To fear means we are not perfect in our love!

Even the fear of my death is gone, for those who would take my life can only send me home to the place where I belong!

Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

All these come not because we knew love for no one understood love until we have known the love of God!

*****1Jn 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
1Jn 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
1Jn 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

The truth is we would have never known love, if not for our Creator!

Loving one another proves that love originated from the Lord and it was this same love that sent the Lord Jesus Christ to die for our sin!

We may say we love God.
We may think we love God.
We may say it and think it and yet not show the love of God to all others.

Our love is shown in our actions. If our actions say otherwise, we are just hypocrites!

If God is truly our Father in Heaven, and He is, how can we say we love our Father and then show hatred toward any of His children?

If God had not shown His love for us, we would never have known love.

With love comes responsibilities!

If we are truly the Temple of God the Holy Spirit, and show no love to all others then we are not filled with God's Holy Spirit. It's just that simple!

If we cling to that personal sin that we refuse to give up, we are in open rebellion to God, and we cannot know the love of God!

The proof that God exist is that we keep His commandments and love as God does!

We think of murderers as the lowlifes of this earth, but when we reject the love of God and the "Grace" of God's Son, we have become murderers!

1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Our love must be real. Our love cannot just be in feelings!

Our feelings alone are never a faithful guide to our Spiritual life!

It is easy to feel that some things considered to be wrong, may in fact be right.

It is easy to feel that some things considered to be right, may in fact be wrong.

God takes the guess work out of our feelings, and just says "obey my commandments" and put your feelings back in your pocket and forget about your feelings!

The truth is not determined by how we feel, the truth comes by what God has said is true!

One of the greatest commandments says: "he that loveth God love his brother also".

Amen

Let's Pray!

Brotherly Love

Increasing in Brotherly Love

Book of Philemon

We think of the Apostle Paul as a great Christian, if not the greatest Christian who has ever lived, but it is a fact that this man named Philemon was counted as a great Christian by the Apostle Paul!

Philemon was a Christian, probably led to the Lord by the Apostle Paul.

Philemon was probably a native of Colossae and he had started a church in his own house.

Philemon was a respected member of society but he also held a prominent place in the Christian community.

No doubt that Philemon held some office in the church, some say he even became bishop of Colossae and was murdered by Nero but there is not much proof of this.

It is certain that Philemon would provide for any of the saints as they passed through this city!

It seems that Onesimus was Philemon's runaway slave at one time and it is in his behalf that the Apostle Paul wrote this epistle.

This epistle that can teach us of how Christians should handle some of the things from our past and uphold our integrity before other Christians and even more so before those who are lost.

We must remember if you call yourself Christian, you place a target upon your back for this lost world to shoot their fiery darts!

It is probable that the Apostle Paul was imprisoned in Rome when he wrote this epistle and it maybe that Paul wrote this epistle with his own hands because it was a personal plea from one Christian to another Christian.

*****Phm 1:1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
Phm 1:2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
Phm 1:3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul was a prisoner at this time in Rome, where he wrote or at least dictated may of his epistles.

Paul was a prisoner to Nero on the outside but Paul was a prisoner of Jesus Christ on the inside!

We can see that Timothy had joined Paul while he was imprisoned in Rome.

To be a Christian is to be a prisoner of Jesus Christ because He purchased us from the slave market of Sin!

In our own way, we should all resemble Philemon and be fellow-laborers with the Apostle Paul in the cause of Jesus Christ!

Paul may have never been to Colossae but Paul knew this family very well.

Apphia was the wife of Philemon.

Archippus was the son of Philemon and was saved and working in his own ministry.

Most all Christians of that day gathered in the home of the Pastor and Philemon had begun a church in his own home.

And of course, all things still come by the "Grace", the unmerited favor of God through the Lord Jesus Christ!

We can be sure that the Apostle Paul had his own prayer list and he also tried to keep up with the happenings of every church that was planted and was surviving at this time.

Not one Christian is of more importance than any other but we all have our prayer list just as the Apostle Paul.

*****Phm 1:4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
Phm 1:5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
Phm 1:6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

If we have a personal relationship with our Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus, and are filled with His Holy Spirit, then we can also say, "I thank my God".

If we have none of these things then we are only thanking the devil who is laughing at you all the time!

We must realize that there is a God and we must get up close and personal with Him, and that can only be accomplished by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your "personal" Savior!

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Joh 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

We should always pray for those who are called into the ministry and for those who have needs that only God can fill!

Jas 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
Jas 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Jas 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Jas 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

There can be no doubt that even when Paul was imprisoned, he did his very best to keep up with all the churches that had been planted and he had heard nothing but good news from the church in the home of Philemon.

It should be clear to us that if you are a child of God, then you are also a saint of God and this happened as soon as the Holy Spirit moved in!

Rom 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, "called to be saints": Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The child of God, "born again" of Jesus Christ, does not need some committee, or the Pope, the laying on of hands, or any man to decide if they are a saint of God!

Philemon had a testimony so strong that even the Apostle Paul thanked God for fulfilling the purpose God had for him!

Our greatest purpose in the work of God is to communicate our faith to others! (we are all in this together)

Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Col 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Do you want to humble yourself? Look in the mirror and ask yourself, "am I walking worthy of the Lord?"

According to the Apostle Paul, remember who is led by the Holy Spirit to say all these words, Philemon was doing this thing!

Philemon walked worthy of the Lord after his salvation!

In other words, Philemon understood what the Lord Jesus Christ has commanded us all to do!

Mat_5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We use that phrase "servants of the Lord" but we must clearly understand our servitude to the Lord is being a servant to one another!

We are to be good "stewards" of the "Grace" of God!

When we face the Lord at the "judgment seat of Christ" we will see that the Lord has considered how we have accomplished these things!

All the "gifts" of God are to be shared with our brothers and sisters and our share of God's "grace" shown to whosoever will listen!

We are always to be "refreshing" when we come together with fellow our brothers and sisters in Christ!

*****Phm 1:7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

The truth is we can never know how far an act of love may travel!

Many of those in Colossae had witnessed the ministry of Philemon and these acts of kindness had traveled across the Sea to Rome and refreshed the spirit of the Apostle Paul who was bound in prison.

We as Christians can also be refreshed when we hear the good works of other Christians from far off places.

I love to hear the good news of our missionaries when they report the good things Christ has accomplished!

Another man once wrote:

We learn about Christ, by giving to others.
We receive from Christ, by sharing with others.
By emptying ourselves, we can be filled with Christ.
The poorer we make ourselves in giving, the richer we are in the gifts of Christ.
To be charitable, is to know more of the wealth of Christ.

Those that know the most of Christ, are not the Bible scholars, but those who move in generosity among mankind especially amongst the saints of God!

We are servants to the Lord by serving others especially to the Church, the Body of Christ!

Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Gal 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

We should be able to rejoice when we see blessings given to other children of God!

We should rejoice when we hear the good news of that missionary we support.

We must especially rejoice for each lost soul that comes to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior!

If Heaven rejoices for every saved soul, then why would we not join in?

Rejoicing is a sign that our "faith" was real.
Rejoicing is a sign that our prayers are answered.
Rejoicing is a sign that God is fulfilling the promises He has made!

The Apostle Paul could rejoice knowing that even while he was bound, the Word of God could not be bound!

We must rejoice because we are all brothers and sister in Christ, who are all doing "one work" in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

So now Onesimus.

*****Phm 1:8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
Phm 1:9 Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Phm 1:10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

Onesimus, whose name means "useful", had at one time been a slave in the house of Philemon, maybe before Philemon had come to know the Lord himself.

He had escaped and without a doubt had also robbed Philemon and had ended up in Rome.

We know that God works in mysterious ways and God had directed Onesimus to cross the path of the Apostle Paul.

Paul is saying that as a man, he had no business getting involved in the workings of a slave and his master but as one Christian to another Christian by Jesus Christ , who is all our Master and as an Apostle called of the Lord, he did have the authority of the Lord in such matters.

Paul is saying even with this authority, it was best to honor Christian friendship as brothers with the same Lord!

We should never make demands of our brothers and sisters in Christ!

Paul laid all these things out before he made his request to Philemon.

We cannot demand that other Christians do the same as we would do. We can try to keep each other on the right path of Jesus Christ!

Notice how gently and humbly Paul approaches his brother in Christ.

The greatest truth of each Christian is that once the Lord Jesus Christ has forgiven us of our sins, how can we as Christians continue to condemn one another? Christ never condemned anyone that loved Him. Those that reject the love of God condemn themselves!

Who are we to question the work of the Lord Jesus Christ?

It is for love's sake that we deal with one another!

1Jn 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1Jn 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

It seems that we forget that as Christians we are never to tear down one another but rather to build up!

Onesimus was a slave not only to Philemon but in the eyes of the law and in the eyes of the law, he had no rights at all!

The slave once escaped did not even have the right of asylum.

Until his death, Onesimus would always be a slave!

An escaped slave, in his despair would normally flee to a friend of his master, not to hide, but to seek intercession on his behalf.

Every slave needed an intercessor! (Sounds familiar)

We were all slaves to sin and separated from our God with no means within ourselves to make things right so we needed an Intercessor and that Intercessor is the Lord Jesus Christ!

Isa 59:16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

There was no one upon this earth who could intercede on behalf of us so the Lord God came Himself, "his arm brought salvation to him"!

The Lord Jesus Christ had been the Intercessor for Onesimus to return him to the good "Grace" of God and the Apostle Paul would intercede for Onesimus between him and Philemon.

The slave of Philemon was now a profitable servant for the Lord and for the Apostle Paul.

Onesimus had not only delivered this epistle named Philemon but he had also assisted Tychicus in delivering the epistle to the Colossians.

Col 4:7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:
Col 4:8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
Col 4:9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.

We know that all the epistles were read in every church but Paul first sent this epistle to Philemon.

It was the Apostle Paul who had led Onesimus to the Lord even while Paul was imprisoned in Rome!

Another name for Onesimus was "profitable"!

*****Phm 1:11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

I think it is important to mention that slavery was never introduced by the Jews. Slavery already existed in the world of that day and God, through Moses had laws regulating its existence and its evils and restricting its duration.

It should also be important to know that slavery in America was never introduced by Americans.

It was the Afro people who introduce slavery to America, capturing and selling them own selves!

Slavery still runs rampant throughout this world. The most valuable source in this evil world is not drugs but human trafficking!

Nowhere in the Scriptures does God endorse slavery. In fact, stealing a human being to make them a slave was a capital crime for any Jew!

Deu 24:7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.

This law was not only for the Jew but for the Gentile:

Exo 21:16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

Anyone that was treated as a servant had to be paid and treated humanely!

Lev 25:39 And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:
Lev 25:40 But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile:
Lev 25:41 And then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.

In fact, any person who had sold themselves into servanthood for a price could redeem themselves or they could be redeemed by family or friends which was encouraged by the Word of God,

When we study these things out in God's Word, we find that the Lord Jesus is in "type" our "Redeemer" who purchased us all from the slave market of sin!

Obviously, the Gentile laws about slaves, differed from the Word of God, but God still expects everyone who places their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to be obedient to all laws but first placing the Word of God as the supreme law of their life even if it conflicts with man's law!

Now back to Onesimus.

In the Gentile nations (God said heathens) there may have been value in a slave because they were purchased but there was no profit in them.

They served till they died or became useless. A slave in bondage did not ever increase in value! The only value was the work that they performed and that decreased as they aged.

Onesimus had escaped and fled from his bondage and had even robbed Philemon of something of some small value.

As Onesimus had fled to Rome, God placed the Apostle Paul in his path and Onesimus called on the Lord Jesus Christ, was washed in the blood of Jesus and was saved and restored to God.

Now could he be restored to Philemon?

There is no Christian who is hopeless and every Christian has great value in the eyes of God and that value increases as we get busy in the work of God!

Mat_6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mat_6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

A Christian who begins to be good to himself will then good for others!

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Onesimus was "born again" and a changed man!

Jesus Christ changes lives. Jesus takes a good for nothing sinner and makes them useful.

Jesus Christ takes a nothing and makes a something, just as in the act of creating our world when He made our world out of nothingness!

Onesimus had wronged Philemon and it was important to make things right with Him!

*****Phm 1:12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
Phm 1:13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
Phm 1:14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

Onesimus had traveled with Tychicus who carried the epistle to the Colossians but also the epistle to Philemon, not because Onesimus would not have delivered this epistle but because Tychicus could be another witness to the conversion of Onesimus.

It is said that Tychicus also carried the epistle to Ephesians at this same time. Tychicus was not a Colossian himself.

Col 4:7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:
Col 4:8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
Col 4:9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.

Paul sent Onesimus to be at the mercy of his offended master.

Philemon, without consent of the law could treat his slave as he pleased and he held the power of life and death in his own hands.

That's what we all do when we bow our knees and repent before the Lord, who also has the power of life and death of us all but He also holds the power of eternal life and eternal death.

A slave who robbed his master and then fled from his master was sentenced to death and we already know the wages of sin is death!

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

These are some of the things that make the epistle of Philemon such a great book of the Bible.

Onesimus had become very dear to the Apostle Paul, just as we have to our Father in Heaven toward His spiritual children!

Mat 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Onesimus would have been a great help to Paul while he was imprisoned but Paul deemed it more important for him to return to Philemon who he had wronged.

Paul said of himself "Paul the aged" and with his bad health it was certain that he needed some help and Paul knew that if Philemon had been in Rome, he would have gladly stayed with Paul and been his help and so stated.

We can just imagine the Holy Ghost working on Paul as even in prison, he was more in bonds to the "Gospel" of Jesus Christ and in his own way, was spreading the Word of God to the far reaches of the world in the only way that was available to him at that time.

The words of Paul by the Holy Spirit added to all the other Scriptures inspired by the Holy Spirit were the hope of Israel but more important the hope of the entire world!

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Just as Paul's purpose was to bring the "Gospel" to the Gentiles, before Onesimus could go further in his own ministry it was his duty to return to Philemon.

In a sense Onesimus needed the permission of Philemon before he could be of service to the Apostle Paul and at the same time Paul was not asking for his return.

This was not a test for Philemon! This was a chance to show his willingness to show his goodness as a Christian.

For Philemon to get a blessing from the Lord, he could not show the appearance of restraining Onesimus as a slave but as a willing brother in Christ to share the work of the Lord.

It is important for us to restrain from all appearance of any evil doings!

1Th_5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Paul, it should appear that Onesimus was a brother who had departed for a period and had come back home.

We all know the importance of the parable of the "Prodigal Son"!

We were all prodigals before we met Jesus Christ! Onesimus was no different!

These are the thoughts that Paul was teaching to Philemon and more important to all Christians everywhere!

*****Phm 1:15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
Phm 1:16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

One of the greatest problems of Christianity is "forgiveness". We seem to have very little problem accepting the stranger who we know nothing about their past but we struggle sometimes to forgive those, who God has forgiven but we know a lot about their sinful past.

In this sense, we are just hypocrites.

Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Mat 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Mat 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

When God has forgiven someone, then who are we to say we will not forgive them!

We also know we should be able to see the truth of them by their works!

We cannot work our way into Heaven but we are to be obedient to the Lord after we are saved and promote the "Gospel" in every way we can.

It is these works after salvation that works toward our perfection!

Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Jas 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

We may think we can have a good relationship with just about anyone but in truth there should no relationship that can be as close as that one between brothers and sisters in Christ!

Amo 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Two people that know and have accepted the Word of God as the inerrant truth, can certainly agree on most everything and develop a good relationship and it should be or "it must" be the same for the entire Christian community.

This is where God's people have failed the most today!

Everyone wants to interpret the Word of God in their own fashion and ignore what God has really said! It is what God has said that is the truth not those who twist the Word of God into something false!

Onesimus was prepared to accept whatever relationship Philemon offered and Paul was pleading on behalf of Onesimus that his relationship with the Lord would bring about a renewed personal relationship.

Two people with a personal relationship with the Lord should have no problem having a personal relationship with each other!

After all, it is the Lord Jesus Christ who is pleading with God and who intercedes on our behalf so that we can have that personal relationship with our God, our Father in Heaven.

Why cannot we do the same for each other!

When we are in the Lord, we are to give our flesh to the Lord as His servant. Not a servant to Him, but a servant to the Church and to one another!

If Philemon counted the Apostle Paul as his partner in the "Gospel" then he should count Onesimus as a partner in the "Gospel" also!

*****Phm 1:17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
Phm 1:18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

Paul was an Apostle of the Lord with all the powers of an Apostle yet he never tried to abuse this power.

God has this simple rule for us all to follow in those who are called to be the Christian leaders.

Heb_13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

We are to follow them in "faith" while considering their conversation to see if it lines up with the Word of God!

If it truly lines up with the Word of God then we are to be obedient to those who have rule over us!

Caution: We are never to take the Word of God out of context! We must never allow this power to be abused in any way!

We must also remember once we have been forgiven we are wrong if we are not just as forgiving!

Mat 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Philemon certainly did not have to submit to the wishes of the Apostle Paul but in this case Paul was right and again God has given us a great example of the Christian life!

Then Paul said, "If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;"

There is no doubt that Onesimus had robbed his master and then run away and therefore he certainly had an unpaid debt.

Even we as Christians deserve the debt of our brothers and sisters or of anyone else to us, to be repaid!

God says thou shall not steal and these laws still hold true! We are never to take something that belongs to others!

Paul said he would assume any debt that Onesimus owed to Philemon.

The truth is we all had a debt we could not pay and the Lord Jesus Christ told our Father in Heaven, "just put that on My account"!

1Jn_4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1Jn_2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

We all faced the wrath of God and by the death of Jesus Christ, "in our place", we that believe have been reconciled to God!

Rom_5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Paul was saying to Philemon, we as Christians all have this same ministry toward one another.

2Co_5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

If Paul could not live what He preached, then none of His epistles could be accepted as the truth.

If is the same with Christ Jesus, if He did not fulfill all the prophecies of the Old Testament and walk in innocence upon this earth, then the Bible would be only an old history book.

If it was the same for Paul and the same for our Lord we can be sure it is the same for us all!

Mat_5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

These are simple things that cost us blessings with the Lord but they ruin our testimony as Christians.

To be Christian is to be like Christ and making Him our Lord!

Joh_13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

If Christ is our Lord then we need to obey the things He has told us to do! (Simple as that)

Luk_6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Again, we should understand the outcome of Onesimus was in the hands of Philemon according to the laws of the land at that time regarding slaves.

Paul dearly wanted to Philemon to make the Christian decision, as the Lord has already justified both Onesimus and Philemon and their sins blotted out in Heaven!

*****Phm 1:19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
Phm 1:20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Phm 1:21 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

As far as Paul was concerned this epistle to Philemon was also an "IOU"!

Paul made sure his signature appeared on this document as proof of his intent to repay Philemon for his losses.

Paul wrote to Philemon with ink.

The Lord Jesus Christ wrote to His Father in Heaven with His Own Blood!

Act_20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

The truth is, in the Colossae of that day, no one in that day would want to be caught with a lawless slave and yet Paul said this is my partner.

The greatest truth in this epistle besides our debt to Christ is, just how much do we owe that person that led us to the Lord!

Another thing Paul was saying that the "born again" man who had returned to Philemon would now not only be profitable to Philemon but also profitable to the Lord!

In truth Onesimus was so much better a slave when he returned to Philemon and he was of so much greater value, that , a debt could be said to be owed to the Apostle Paul.

Again, a true born-again Christian who is now in harmony with our Father in Heaven is of such a great value that the Father may owe a debt to the His Son, Jesus.

Joh 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Joh 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Heb_1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

And the Father will allow the Church to share in that inheritance and in the glory of Christ!

Heb_9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

If there is one thing we lack today besides "faith" then it would be "confidence" in our brothers and sisters to do the right thing every time!

If there is one thing that each new child of God needs, it is to be received by his brothers and sisters in Christ!

We must also understand that Paul was not accusing Philemon of anything. Paul was trying his best to show his confidence in Philemon and that he would do the right thing.

We must all hope for the best outcome as each child of God goes through the burdens of the world but a brother or sister in Christ should never be one of those burdens.

We are not to think bad about our Church family without true biblical evidence!

A godly love will always cause the right actions!

1Co 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1Co 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1Co 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1Co 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

As we can see the Apostle Paul had much more love for each child of God than we can imagine.

It was important to Paul that each child of God do their best to show the love of God in everything they did!

It is important for us to know that no one is excluded from the "Grace" of God, except those who exclude themselves!

No one is excluded from the glory world except those who exclude themselves!

The Lord God Almighty is standing with arms open to receive all those who call upon His name and only those who reject the Word of God will miss His embrace as of a loving Father!

And Paul begins to close:

*****Phm 1:22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

We know that without "faith" we cannot please God.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

We already know that the Apostle Paul accepted the will of God and moved to wherever the Holy Ghost moved him. Paul had his own plans changed many times, the Macedonian call being the most well-known.

Here the Apostle Paul was showing Philemon his "faith" in answered prayer.

If by prayer Paul was released from prison, he would have loved to come to Colossae just to see the good works of Onesimus!

God had other plans!

In fact, Paul had a great desire to visit all his friends one more time before his death.

Some say after this imprisonment Paul spent some time in Greece, Spain, and Asia Minor before returning to Rome and to his death.

Some say Paul was never liberated and was just put to death in Rome.

Paul realized his time was short before his Roman trip even began!

Act 20:25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

It was in Rome where we hear the last words from Luke.

It is the Book of 2 Timothy that we hear the last of Luke, who kept us informed of the travels of the Apostle Paul. We can just imagine the health of the Apostle Paul by the fact the Luke, also a physician, traveled with him.

2Ti 4:9 Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:
2Ti 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
2Ti 4:11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
2Ti 4:12 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.

And Paul closes this epistle to his dear friend.

*****Phm 1:23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
Phm 1:24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
Phm 1:25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Epaphras not imprisoned in Rome but still a fellowprisoner in Christ.

It is Epaphras who is believed to be the missionary who had planted the church in Colossae.

This Marcus is the probably the same Mark that was sent home by Paul and the means of the dispute between Paul and Barnabas.

We know this because it was Peter who had led this Marcus to the Lord at a young age, probably a teenage.

1Pe 5:13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

Aristarchus had been traveling with Paul since his time in Thessalonica.

Demas with Paul now, at this time is the same Demas who had forsaken Paul.

2Ti 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

If the Book of Philemon was written after 2 Timothy then it appears that Demas has been restored, there is no way of actually knowing.

This Lucas is the same as Luke the physician, who wrote the Books of Acts and the Book of Luke and possibly was the writer who wrote down the words of Paul for the Book of Hebrews,

Without the "Grace" of God, supplied through the Lord Jesus Christ, and powered by the Holy Spirit, then there could be no Church!

The true Church consists of those who assemble to worship Jehovah God, who have accepted His Dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and are now in the power of the Holy Spirit.

All others are just fakes!

Amen.

Let's Pray!
